Hello everyone

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results

Realtrack Models has announced the Class 156 DMU for 00. This DMU has always been popular with voters, so it is good to see it come to fruition. Below is how it has fared since 2012.

2012 - High Polling (but in the lower echelons of the segment)

2013 - High Polling

2014 - High Polling (now in The Top 50)

2015 - High Polling (slightly higher up The Top 50)

2016 - High Polling (higher again at position 17 overall)

In 2016, the Class 156 was the second most-wanted DMU (305 votes) behind the Class 120 (with 347 votes).

I'll let you have other results as they appear. If you haven't yet seen The Poll Results, you can find them at the start of this thread.

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (2)

Following yesterday's 'teasing post' by Chris Leigh, Model Rail is looking for expressions of interest for the GER J70 Tram Loco in 00. We won't take it out of the 00 Poll yet, but will wait for confirmation that the project is proceeding which - going by its Poll popularity - should be a good choice for many modellers. Below is how it has fared since 2012.

2012 - Middle Polling

2013 - High Polling (but in the lower echelons of the segment)

2014 - High Polling (but now towards the middle of the segment)

2015 - High Polling

2016 - High Polling (but now towards the top of the segment and not far short of The Top 50)

In 2016, it was the sixth most-wanted LNER & Constituents loco with 224 votes. It was behind the GER N7 (256 votes); Sentinel Railcar (252); NER J26/J27 (244); GER J67/J69/J68 (229); and the LNER W1 Hush Hush (226).

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (3)

I don't have full details yet, but photos from Andy York suggest that TMC has announced a Double Bolster wagon in 00. We list LNER/LMS/BR Plate/Double Bolster/Trestle Wagon, so it will be interesting to see if the other two types spin off (which seems a practical possibility).

We changed the way we listed certain wagons in 2015, so I can't give you a report back to 2012. However, in 2015 it was Middle Polling. In 2016, it was still Middle Polling but much higher up the segment.

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (4)

Hornby has announced the GWR Toad Brake Van (AA15) in 00. This vehicle has been High Polling since 2012, but was at its highest point ever last year - coming in at approx.120th position overall.

(Speaking personally here, the separate handrails will no doubt be an excellent feature.)

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (5)

Hornby has announced the LMS Ivatt Coronation (Duchess) (46256-46257) in 00. (The company has also announced the 'other' version, but that hasn't been in The Poll as it was re-tooled after our cut-off date - but good news that that it is being brought up to current high standards. We have had a number of requests to list it, but we have to go by our 2000 cut-off date.)

This is the first new LMS loco for some years.

The type has fared as below:

2012 - Middle Polling (towards the lower echelons)

2013 - Middle Polling (now towards the middle)

2014 - Middle Polling

2015 - Middle Polling (but now towards the higher echelons)

2016 - High Polling

In 2016, it was the 7th most-wanted LMS & Constituents loco with 166 votes.

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (6)

Hornby has announced the Class 87 in 00. Since 2012, the class has fared as below.

2012 - High Polling (towards the top)

2013 - High Polling (but now in The Top 50)

2014 - High Polling (still in the Top 50 but now the most-wanted electric loco)

2015 - High Polling (higher up The Top 50; still the most-wanted electric loco)

2016 - High Polling (now up to about 16th place in The Top 50; still the most-wanted electric loco)

Warley & The Wishlist Poll 2016 Results (7)

Hornby has announced the Class 800 in 00. This was 'new to The Poll' in 2015 and found itself Low Polling. However, for 2016, it had moved up to Middle Polling.

From looking at the survey being run on the Hornby site, it should be a very popular item.

Hello Andy

As we say in the Q&A each year, we have never claimed that models are made purely on the basis of The Poll Results. The results represent the views of those who vote and we hope those views are reflected by what the makers receive themselves via their own contact with their supporters.

We could list 30,000+ items. The majority of what has been announced in 00 since 2012 - when this Team first started running The Poll - has come from the upper half of the 700+ listings, with much from the upper half of that.

Even if you only take the results of the items listed above between 2012 and 2014, pretty much all were upward moving. Some were - and continued to be - very high.

Useful analysis by Brian, thankyou. It all goes to suggest that voting for what you want may have the right effect, and, importantly for the cynics, not everything that gets produced - or at least mooted, vide the J70 - is mainstream. Not voting certainly achieves nothing. The Poll Team may be justifiably pleased with their efforts, yet again.

Hello Ian

Many thanks for the comment above which is much appreciated.

I forgot to say in my reply to Andy Hayter (#89 and 90) that The Poll Team set up the data to not only facilitate voting, but to provide The Guide to help those who - for example - knew they wanted some additional 'green coaches' or another 'small tank engine' but were unsure of which would best suit their aims.

If I go to back to pre-2012 days on MREmag, there was much debate about the GER/LNER J Classes. They now have very strong focus (and the J15 and J50 have already come to market). The same focus has been applied to certain Scottish types.

Hello everyone

I thought you might like to know how the all-new items announced by Bachmann today fared in The Wishlist Poll 2016. In 00:

The MR 1P 0-4-4T, Class 20/3Prestwin Twin Silo and Vanwide were all High Polling.

The Class 410 (4 BEP) was Middle Polling - it missed being High by just one vote!

We didn't list the 1960's Carflat as one type has been announced by Oxford Rail (although we still list the 1959 type).

In N:

The Stanier 8F 2-8-0 was the most-wanted LMS steam loco and came in at position 8th overall. It was the second most-wanted steam loco - the most-wanted being the LSWR/SR N15 King Arthur.

The SECR C Class 0-6-0 was High Polling.

The Thompson Coaches (square windows) were Middle Polling.

Hello everyone

I thought you might like to see how today's Oxford's announcements fared in The Wishlist Poll 2016.

The GER N7 0-6-2T was in the Top 50.

The Class A & B Tanks were not listed as they have already been announced by Heljan.

The Warwell wasn't listed as it has been announced by Hattons.

The GWR AA3 Toad Brake Van wasn't listed as we previously had AA15 and 6-wheeled versions listed - and they have been announced. (We referred to the '4-wheel spin-off' in The Guide notes appertaining to the 6-wheeled version.)

That brings the running total of items announced from The Poll since the results of 2016 to:

3 - Top 50

4 - High Polling (other than Top 50)

1 - Middle Polling (and that missed being High by just one vote).

Hello everyone

Following today's announcements (which were hot on the heels of those of yesterday) I thought you might like a 'catch-up' as to where we are. Since my last post (above) the following have been announced:

From The Top 50

Churchward 43xx (Dapol)

Collett 43xx (Dapol)

51xx/61xx (Dapol)

Lord Nelson (Hornby)

Maunsell RF (Hornby)

P Class (Hattons)

Industrial 0-4-0ST (Hattons)

High Polling (excl Top 50)

Bulleid Shallow Vent Coaches (Bachmann)

Toad Brake Vans (Hornby)

RHTT (Hattons)

NER Dynamometer Car (Rails/Rapido)

Middle Polling

J36 (Hornby) (this loco was at the very high end of Middle)

Bulleid Deep Vent Coaches (Bachmann)

Low Polling

Ex-LMR Blue Pullman in MU-form

At Warley, Rapido announced a Gunpowder Van - but details were a little scant at the time, so we await full confirmation. (If it is the one that we listed, then it was High Polling). Although a number of other items have been announced from 'new tooling', they were not in the 2016 Poll for a number of valid reasons - for example, tooled after our 2000 cut-off date.

All this brings our totals of items announced since publication of the 2016 Results to:

9 - From The Top 50

11 - From High Polling (excl The Top 50)

5 - Middle Polling (albeit with one that missed being High by one vote and another that was at the very high end)

1 - Low Polling

The Poll Team wishes all these makers and commissioners all the best for successful models.
