we seem to have drifted some way from Alley Pally.

To bring it back on course.

The GNR society had a very good weekend at the show, (I manned the stand on the Sunday) some very good conversations with members and non members and an enjoyable well organised show.

I said hello to Andy Y first thing,  later when he was interviewing Tim watson on Copenhagen Fields I was rather surprised to see the filming being done on an iPhone. I know the quality is good but never realised that BRM TV footage used one, as I presumed it to be a professional setup for the quality that we see.

Well I'm glad you enjoyed, I stood for a whole 5 seconds watching the GNR Society stand and I didn't see a single train running the whole time I was there.....rant, rant rant

Not quite as it seems, the phone was just a monitor for what was going on in the Osmo camera it was strapped to. It's a guerilla telly approach that York and Parker dodgy video productions have been using for a few weeks. There's some signs of it in this month's BRM.

Aaah I see, I thought the other bit was just the sound/mic.

Very impressive quality judging by this months DVD.

Phil and I are not the video camera pros, we're just putting some extras together. We leave the CGI to Martin 'Michael Bay' Tempest.

There's an old saying in the real world....

......."the railway runs better without any punters"........

Now in the model world......

......"an exhibition.............." ?

'enuff said?

Model railways run well till someone tries to video them? ;)

If I go to the theatre or a football match and it's carp, or I don't like the content then I have wasted my money and time. If I go to a model railway show I can leave the exhibits I don't like and still enjoy most of the show.

I find that when I visit exhibitions (which I seldom do) it always seems to be layouts modelling things I'd never heard of or of which I have no interest that grab my attention. This is sometimes because the standards of modelling and operation are so good and maybe because it is something new and different for me. After all, if I want to exist in some sort of echo chamber to look at models of the things that really interest me I could stay at home. To me the best reason for visiting exhibitions is to experience new ideas, see new subjects and maybe be inspired to do things differently.

Our content is good enough for the "Extras" section of the DVD - interesting topics but shot in places where it's not practical to send the full video team. You can see some results here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/120176-channel-4-model-railway-challenge/?p=2667273

Having seen some footage this week from Martin & Kyle, the results are gorgeous. We can't hope to emulate that but where we score is getting into useful places for a few minutes. You can't dispatch the Warners video unit for a 5 minute interview, but ParkerYork filmit productions can leap in the car, Profesionals stylee, and get there.

The practical upshot is that you get a longer DVD attached to your mag or downloaded in your electronic edition.

I agree, I model 4mm. I don't generally bother with 2mm inany way but then you fall over a layout, Law Junc, MeltonMowbray, Fencehouses and Horsely Fields spring to mind, which just capture your attention and you end up watching them for ages again and again.

I actually get more from a well modelled and well run 2mm /7mm layout from a 'trainset' 00 layout but even then, there are some bl**dy lovely 00 gauge layouts complete with tension lock couplings.

It's a funny old world.

I've been thinking this for quiet a while, why do we bother, do these people know what goes into exhibiting a layout, setting up, standing on your feet for 16 hours , getting grief from SWMBO, all to try and please some moaning bas***ds. :nono:

being an American HO modeller, our layouts are usually a small percentage of most exhibition (there are a few exceptions) and you do get a bit fed up with some peoples attitude, but when you get a person or persons asking question about construction, operations etc it then seem worth the while!.

I think in future i'll be more selective, as to which shows to attend, maybe concentrating on those that are American friendly :stinker:

Ray

Hey Ray!

Don't you dare start rationing your presence at exhibitions. 29th Street needs to know that it can encounter some friendly faces on the circuit!

Hi

I'm trying to track down a trader at the recent Aly Paly show.

I've lost my detailed hallplan but looking at the draft trade plan on about published late last year on about page 1 of this thread he may have been stand 158.

He sold secondhand RTR and was in the side hall (West hall??) just to the left of the r/h exit as you left that hall and went back into the Great Hall.

Any help gratefully received - maybe best as a PM?

Stand 158 was:

EKM Exhibitions

www.ekmexhibitions.co.uk

ekmexhibitions@virginmedia.com

07954 712915

I believe they are something to do with the old East Kent Models spares specialist who ceased trading from their shop last year.  I bought a nicely priced Thomas range Edward from that stand for my little one and they had all sorts of bits and pieces there.
