A great photo indeed. I went searching for KX stabling point photos some time ago and that one gives lots of detail that you don't normally get. I would put it later than '73 though as I think it was '76 before head codes were discontinued, and a while after that before Domino replacements came in.

Thanks mate here's a couple more I found today to, each one seams to throw up something new.

From t'web:

The 'domino' marker lights preceded the discontinuation of headcodes by some

time. In fact all of the Deltics were carrying that detail in the former

headcode panels by late 1974. The experiment, DL/381, commenced with 9009 at

the end of 1972 (initially at one end only). Later, of course, the headcode

panels were completely plated over (except for 55 008/020/022 which were

withdrawn with the 'domino' style).

No this one Andy, D9016

It is a trick of the light and the dis-colourisation of the old slide. I have seen this sort of lemon-orange colour before from old slides of Deltics (and Hymeks) but none were painted like this for real all were Lime Green.

Also, from looking at the flickr info, it seems that the pic was taken on Ektachrome film stock which is noted for a blue cast when processed. If this has been overcorrected by scanning I expect it would make the yellowy green of the lower band appear more orange than what it should?

Most if not all one off Deltic things are well documented, I cannot recall any experimentation of lower green colour.

Thanks Clive, that's a pity as it'd make an interesting model like D9010 does in its green with double arrows.

I have had a second look at the photo, I could be wrong. There is a colour change where the curve of the nose meets the bodyside, again it could be the lighting.

I have done an interwebthingy search, why does it have to be one of the persevered ones, I must have looked at every inch of today's Great Central with D9016 on it.

Opposite the milk dock (platform 17) is the Culross Building. It is prominent at one end of the yard. This link takes you to a PDF with scale drawings and photos. You will have to accept the conditions of use:

If the link doesn't work for you, Google 'Culross Building, Cheney Street'.
