Try this interactive map http://www.railmaponline.com/UKIEMap.php

It's possible to bring in alternative background maps (eg OS 6" maps):

This is just a screenshot of the Forest of Dean area with the OS 6" as the background mapping.

The dropdown menu in the top right changes the background mapping. Pan and zoom tools allow a closer look at the map details.

all the best,

Keith

Hello,

Can anybody please point me in the direction of where I can get hold of or view a detailed Railway Map of The Forest Of Dean?

Thank you

Discover Trains

Go to the Nation Library of Scotland Maps website

http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=5&lat=56.0000&lon=-4.0000&layers=64&b=1&point=0,0

Then type in a place name in the Forest of Dean

and have a look at their 25" to the mile OS maps (England and Wales) for the Forest of Dean either the turn of o the century 1900 series or the 1920's series and you can find all the railways and tramways. Its free. I spend hours looking at these maps and the history they revel. Then look online for photos of the same areas in the Forest of Dean.

Merry Christmas.

Best regards,

Pierre

Yes, and on many routes, if you right click on the line, you can bring up a link to the wikipedia article about it.

Many thanks about www.railmaponline.com/UKIEMap.php, I simply forgot about this web site and it seems to have come a very long way since I last visited them.  Thank you for reminding me.

In the meantime, I have ordered the Track Layout Diagrams book for the Forest of Dean, not sure what the contents will be like which I have ordered from www.lightmoor.co.uk/books/37-forest-of-dean/TLD28

What I would like if one does exist, is something similar to the books that you can get from www.trackmaps.co.uk .

In the meantime, I will start to look at the railmaponline web site.

Thank you, DiscoverTrains
