wireman
Graham was unable to attend this week, so we had to make our own tea, and, as he is the only one who puts things away at the end of a work session, makes finding things difficult when he is not there. ( They are normaly returned to the correct draw or box, but that would be the last place we would look. ) Back to the dairy, the first picture is the part complete building in its intended position, the chimney is a Bachmann product and really looks the part.
wireman
To service the boiler house, there will be a coal drop at the end of the track, opposite the boiler house and the space after the dairy will be a turning area for milk lorries, plus in the future an office building may be built here for the dairy. It is possible the glue brushes used this week may be solid before next week, sorry Graham. Regards. Brian. 6

wireman
Progress has not stopped at the station, this week saw the wall opposite the entrance completed, a few passengers outside waiting for the bus, a couple of customers at the chip shop at last, plus several other small odds and ends that needed sorting.
wireman
An evening visit this week and I had forgotten my camera so just a couple of poor quality pictures taken on my phone. Yes, I know they're never brilliant. Firstly, bollards and loading gauge at Wimhill. 7
wireman
Next, the dairy, a water tower, coal staithe and landscaping still to be done. Enjoy Easter break. Regards. Brian. ( wireman ).
lmsforever
The OB bus suits the layout thanks for the photo of the loading gauge just got a kit and now I can see how it goes together
wireman
Nick had started the water tower for the dairy, so during yesterdays visit the final decision about where the tower and offices were to be fitted was made. The water tower is a Dapol kit but will stand on supporting walls instead of the pillars supplied. This position forthe tower involved cutting into the embankment plus further trimming of the embankment to allow vehicle access around the office building. The office building is being scratch built , based on an actual dairy which had previous family connections. The lighter area in the centre will be the office block site. Glancing through my photos, I noticed this one, no one appears to have seen the Guard prostrate on the platform beside the loco. Hopefully the medics will arrive in time with the superglue to save him. Bristol exhibition Friday, no major purchases envisaged but best to take a debit card just in case. Regards Brian. wireman
No major purchases at Bristol, lots of bits and bobs. Good show though. More progress on the offices for the dairy area and I have been reminded that this building also housed an ice cream making facility. As can be seen the embankment needs further hacking excavation for vehicles to pass round, another little job on the list. Reagards Brian. wireman
Back to the dairy. I have a little background information now about the Hickmans and Mould dairy factory. Nicks great grandfather was a business partner in this ice cream factory situated in Whitmoor street, Wolverhampton and thje building built around the early 30's was known for years after as the old ice cream factory. The pictures show progress on the model plus one of the building taken during the 1930's. In later life it became the Gala Casino. Regards Brian. wireman
Quote Visits by friends of Coleborne this week meant more operating than usual, although Nick managed to nearly finish the factory area. The building is still missing the prominent clock , which is now in hand thanks to Scott's idea of just printing one, selected from the many pictures on the internet, on to the plastic card used for the face of the building. Picture next week. People and vehicles will be added as and when, together with more detailing around the water tower. This weeks pictures show the dairy and factory in there final setting in the landscape on the approach to Wimhill. Regards Brian. wireman
Our afternoon visit this week meant that I spent most of it sitting under the baseboard sorting out a troublesome point motor, something I had resolved to do last week. I think the very warm weather had caused some track movement in the storage yard, preventing one of the points throwing fully. After many attemps and much fiddling nothing seemed to cure the problem, so the only solution was to reposition the motor, which entailed turning it 180 degress so new mounting places for the screws could be found. This of course meant resoldering to reverse the connecting wires. Never good fun in a cramped space above your head. Meanwhile, Nick had assembled some tanks and plumbing to fit inside the dairy. Having no idea what should be inside, he constructed the unit in the picture below from various bits left around on the bench. Very impressive, unfortunately, very little will be visible through the windows, but we know it's there. It is possible to see a little of the works through the windows of the factory, which are very similar. Note factory clock. By way of a change, a class 47 arriving at Coleborne with a lengthy pullman train. I'm hoping to have my own layouts scratch built platform canopy ready to take for this Wednesday so Nicks weathering expertise can be sought. Or better still, he may even do it. Regards. Brian . ( wireman ). Soldering in cramped under baseboard situations does require considerably more tea Graham. 13

wireman
Most of my photo's this week were rubbish so just a couple of pics. to prove I went along. Many small items of detail are now being added around the dairy and factory and this was probably my downfall, trying to get close ups etc. The important part of the afternoon was that Nick kindly weathered my part built canopy for Brampton road, pictures of which will appear on my own thread shortly, or fairly soon or sometime or other. Note. Nicks user name has been changed from Trackbed to Drummerboy. Something else he does very well. wireman
The arrival of the new Hornby Bulleid coaches caused much excitement for this weeks visit. The pictures show the three coach set pulling away from Coleborne Junction. Also completed is the new water tower for Wimhill engine shed which just need fixing in place. No visits planned over the next few weeks because of forth coming holidays. Regards Brian. ( wireman ).
wireman
I have to agree with those people who find the detailing packs included with new models very fiddly to fit. This brake linkage for a West Country Pacific is a good example. Super glue at the ready. Regards Brian. ( wireman ). 6

wireman
Whilst collecting the Bulleid coaches at our local model shop, Model Railway Solutions, Nick was shown the latest products from DCC.Concepts of which they are now stockist. This resulted in the purchase of a pack of two illuminated buffer stops, which have now been fitted. Being suitably impressed. Two more packs have been obtained and await fitting. Each buffer comes with a small PCB. fitted with three different value resistors allowing a choice of brightness to be made. Here at Coleborne the power has been taken from the main bus. feed. I should have taken a picture of the PCB under the base board but did not think about it at the time. Will do it next time. Having a couple of weeks break, probably have withdrawal symptoms. wireman
After a short summer break our normal Wednesday afternoons have resumed. My last post mentioned the purchase of four more of the DCC concepts buffer stops, so this has been the the first job for me this week whilst Nick completes the Ratio Western region signals. Fitting these buffer stops is probably very simple when fitting to newly laid track in an open space, but in between platforms on ballasted track was fiddly to say the least. The first picture is of the small PCB 's which come with each buffer, these allow direct connection to the DCC bus. The wires from the stops are very fine and soldering to the PCB underneath difficult as the board could only be raised by about 45degrees. Nevermind, all good fun. 4
