lekkie lad
I've got a number of Cambrian Dogfish ballast hopper kits to build and I'd like to add the brake rigging between the vacuum cylinder and the opposite end brake gear. However, I've not been able to find a real version to stick my head into. Can anyone advise on how the brake rigging is passed by or through the hoppers please? I'm not sure but does it run in a duct through the actual hopper (as I believe was the case for piped coke hoppers)? Ian S
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted February 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2017 I've always assumed that the longitudinal ridge in the bottom of the Cambrian Dogfish hopper moulding represents a tunnel for the brake rod (and possibly parts of the hopper operating linkages) to pass through. That being the case, the rod is unlikely to be visible without inverting the wagon. Even if you wanted to add such details by opening up a channel from underneath, you would be through the sides before it was wide enough to be useful. That sort of thing is best left to those modelling in 7mm scale and larger IMHO John
RMweb Gold markjj Posted February 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2017 If my memory serves me right it passes through the bottom part of the hopper and it's just a rod connecting one end to the other. It's passed through an oval hole which is offset to one side behind the curved chute. I had some photos but they are on an old hard drive somewhere but I'm sure there are other threads on here that may have some similar photos or someone might come along and correct me... The photo which is most useful regarding where and how the brake gear is situated on the real thing is an insert on a larger photo of the model. This is the link http://www.7mmlocomotives.co.uk/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=6157 Do you have a larger version of the insert picture showing how/where the brake rod runs under the hopper? Thanks
lekkie lad
Thanks for all the advice. I'm only looking for a bit of representation of the brakes. I don't expect much of it will be seen from 'on high', but I'll know it's all there (unless I make an absolute mess). Ian S

At the recent Stevenage CMRA show there was an R-T-RR Dogfish on one stand. Not sure which manufacturer but I couldn't seeany representation of the linkage. But the pix on your link are splendid.
