Moderators Howard Smith Posted February 27, 2017 Author Moderators Share Posted February 27, 2017 My old archived site from which the 10.25 Society originally sprang is here http://gilesfavell.com/giles%20railway%20site.htm Thanks for the link Giles, the standards will be very helpful - don't want it to be incompatible with track! Richie Kynaston
I think you need to be in contact with a guy called David Moore if you aren't already. I don't know your background but a project like this is undoubtedly more complicated than an equivalent steam loco, and is a lot more complicated than sticking a generating set in a class 47 shaped body. A lot of smaller gauge engineers get around this by simply having a gen-set in a body charging batteries which are used for traction current. If you want to take traction current direct from the power unit then you have to consider miniaturisation of key components like load regulators, electrical control cubicles and air systems. Dave has built his 10.25g class 60 over the last 20 years or so and is a proper diesel electric and as far as I am concerned is the final word in miniature diesel locomotives. https://flic.kr/p/ohZkGj https://flic.kr/p/oi1Fw7 https://flic.kr/p/HRdNpC https://flic.kr/p/HRea4y https://flic.kr/p/x1mY3S Regards Steve Wow, talk about stunning - not just the bodyshell, but the internal parts etc are just unbelivable. I would love to have the skill (not to mention knowledge and patience) to tackle something like that! Full credit to the chap. Does anyone know what engine is actually in it? I presume the builder/owner has his own railway at home to run it on - I have an image of his own Tyne Yard! Lol! Richie

mswjr
Ah ,My Favourite engine,I have rebuilt 2 rover v 8 engines in the past, dead simple to work on,and the sound, with that chassis, its gonna go like stink,,I ride bikes so i do not hang around,But a few years ago ,My mate took me out in his kit car,Went around a roundabout faster than my bike,or felt like it it did, stuck to the road like glue, Nice work, roll on summer
NickBrad
It's a shame you can't shoehorn that V8 into the loco I'm sure the car will make for much summertime fun, so I can easily forgive you being distracted by it.

RMweb Gold simon b Posted January 14, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 14, 2018 I'm on the hunt for a six cylinder turbo diesel - maybe something out of a 4x4... will run a generator which will power traction motors. Do you know the width and height you've got to play with for the engine? I've got some merc and bmw 6cyl engines I can run a tape measure around for you.

Hello Simon, Thanks - 48cm width, around 70cm in depth (ideally 65), but I guess I could dry sump the engine if needs be... are they diesel?
Moderators Howard Smith Posted July 23, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted July 23, 2018 Progress... the body will be dropped soon. Tracking wasn't done in the below shots. Let's hope it starts first time!
NickBrad
I'm really keen to see this progress, not being a fan of steam, the other projects hold little appeal. Hopefully this hasn't been shelved now the car is presumably finished.

I'm in the final throws of completing it and it's now booked in at the trimmers (always a good sign). I'll be back on the 47 soon! This was before the bodyshell went back down... a lot of work to get it exactly as it left the factory... 1
