You need a Ford Consul GT (rather than a Granada) for the main squad car:

https://classiccarcuration.co.uk/youre-nicked-restored-sweeney-consul-heads-to-nec-classic/

although it is basically a Granada Mk1 - if you can get one in 1:148 scale please let me know

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Consul#Ford_Consul_(Granada_Mark_I_based)_(1972–1975)

I am working on a number of 70s-90s cars at the moment, closest to completion are Series 1 Allegro 4 door, Triumph 2000 Mk2 and Mk1 Marina (unfortunately... some duplication but it is too far down the road to give up on), next up is the Maxi/Landcrab but the Granada was on the longer term list and if the others are a success I'll give it a crack in Consul and Mk2 form.

That sounds great.

Hello everybody,  I have only recently started dabbling with making my own vehicles and am finding it very satisfying.  Apart from building what I want, rather than what is available in the marketplace, I also get the choice of what scale I want to build at etc.   The reason for needing to make my own vehicles is because I build dioramas to 1:144 scale, including Elmdon (Birmingham) airport and RNAS Yeovilton air station.  I have started to learn CAD with Fusion 360, as I am finding that the easiest to learn with; and my printer is an Anycubic Photon S.

I started out with a requirement for a single decker bus which did the run from Birmingham station to Elmdon in the 1950's and 1960's and references showed one of the buses to be a Leyland PS1 Tiger.  I couldn't find a model of this available, even in 1:148 or 1:160 and so this became my first foray.

The bus on the right in the b/w photo is the vehicle I wanted to make.

My first attempt at a print came out fine, although my lack of knowledge on CAD meant that this was to be solid model.

A lick of cream and blue and I have a Birmingham City airport services bus.

I may have a go at doing the other bus, which I am currently using an Oxford's Heathrow BEA bus.

I am now working on making something more elaborate, or at least something hollowed and with internal details.

cheers,

Mike

The Allegro had the infamous 'square' steering wheel.

That one doesn't as it looks like a Series 2 car. The 'Quartic' wheel was actually discontinued very early on in 1974 so only the earliest Series 1 saloons had it and most have round wheels. Being LHD must make it a Belgian-built car rather than a Longbridge one.

I really need to get a car project actually properly finished... but thanks for the feedback all, the allegro is back in the virtual Longbridge, having its grill sorted and the steering wheel* switched from the Innocenti Regent side to the correct side (at some stage I might do the VDP version as well).  Marina is nearly done, Triumph 2000 is doing my head in as well as an Austin 1800. Focus isn't my friend right now.

Given the previus interest here is the latest progress on the Granada/Consul. Complete with Sweeney spot lamps but will also come in non "get your trousers on, you're nicked son" spec. I have fallen in love with the Granadas so the Mk2 will probably follow shortly as well as some Coupe/estate versions.... I may even scale one up and get one to accompany my 1/32 Airfix kits.

*without wishing to poke a hornets nest, I have decided to stick with a round wheel as despite the quartic being the most famous as has been pointed out it only lasted a year. Spec wise, I have decided to do "a" allegro based on photos of one car to try and eliminate any spec confusion.

@m0rris Looking really nice. I dabble in 3D design, but would not know where to start with such complex shapes as cars.

Now I have decided to complete a set of all the cars I have owned in N scale, I have a few gaps left to fill. I have, or can get, 10 of my cars, but will need the following: Vauxhall Viva HB90, Hillman Avenger GLS, Wartburg 353 saloon (Knight), 5th generation Ford Escort estate, Peugeot 805, first generation Renault Kangoo van, Toyota Yaris (XP150) and second generation VW Touran.

The full set would include another 7 company cars, all of which are unavailable.

Now, if I started on cars that my dad owned, it would make a very interesting list.

Morris 8, Ford Popular, Standard 8, Austin A40 Countryman, Jowett Javelin (I have the Oxford Models one), Hillman Minx, Hillman Super Minx ...

I live in hope that one day, somebody will create some of the above.

I hope you don't mind the following observation to consider.

Example from a similar angle. Basically though you've done a good job there. Your version looks better than the Oxford diecast effort.

I'm sure you know the Mk.2 is really a Mk.1 with a nose, tail and roof job (on the estate, just the nose and detailing). The lower parts of the doors are identical, but the rubbing strip hides the concave shape near the bottom.

I’d like to do a similar thing.

My sequence would be Vauxhall Viva HC, Vauxhall Viva HC, Opel Kadett version of the Mk1 Astra, then Mk1 Astra, Mk2 Cavalier CDi, Rover 214SLi, Mk2 Rover 214......then on to something more reliable 2 Honda HRVs, followed by a Mk1 Ford Kuga and we are now on our second Mk2 Ford Kuga.

My Dads cars were a couple of Bond Three wheelers with the Anglia type back end followed by Reliant Regal, Reliant 3/25s, Supervan....before several Robins and Rialtos!

OK the cars arrived yesterday.....must be an age thing.....the other new car I’d order were a pair of Austin/Morris 1100/1300s not the Datsuns which are still a new issue.

Some pictures.

I have paid someone on Fiverr to design these with more variants incoming.
