RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted July 16, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 16, 2018 There is a decent 3D printed Austin Maestro in 1:148 scale that may suit you: https://www.shapeways.com/product/65CTVZZ2J/nam01-1-148-austin-maestro?optionId=42373118&li=marketplace And, of course, RailNScale do N gauge Ford Escorts: https://www.shapeways.com/product/JCX68PM62/set-3x-ford-escort-mk3-british-n-1-148?li=shareProduct I've yet to finish off mine: DSC_3909.JPG G I’m trying to run a cut off date for Olympia as 1980....although I’m going to have stock for 1986 too. The Escorts and Maestro are just to late for the earlier date. RailNscale are advertising a Bonus delivery set of vans and pick ups....1/160 only. https://railnscale.com/2018/07/15/commercial-vehicles/0n2736b/
grahame
I’m trying to run a cut off date for Olympia as 1980....although I’m going to have stock for 1986 too. The Escorts and Maestro are just to late for the earlier date. I didn't realise you had set such dates - I'm taking a more flexible mid 70s to mid 90s approach to include the NSE (1986-94) era. Those two cars might not be any good for a 1980 cut off but the Escort Mk3 (1980-86) and Austin Maestro (1982-87) should be okay for your 1986 period. You could do with the Escort Mk2 (74-81) and Fiesta Mk1 (76-83) for your earlier period. I seem to recall they were popular at the time. The big problem is finding any ordinary and common cars, either RTP or kit, that were on the roads in the last three decades of the last millennium. It's quite a chunk of history that seems ignored. grahame
These would suit your 1980 cut of date: L-R: Tomytec Toyota Landcruiser (67-80); Tomytec Toyota Corolla estate (74-79) and R Parker Rover P6 (63-70) G.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted July 16, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 16, 2018 I have the Mk1 Land Cruiser and all the colours of the Corolla. The Parker Rover 2000 on my list. I have the Jaguar he does which is nice too.
grahame
My early bird pack of three Chevettes arrived today. I've given them a quick scrub with cream cleaner, rinsed with lashings of warm water and primed when dry: I did order in the smoothest/finest and most expensive material but there is still a little work to eradicate some ridges, particularly on the sides and roofs, although it's not a great deal. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted July 25, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2018 My Chevettes arrived earlier in the week, still to clean them up yet. Nearly bought a 3 door hatch in Jamaica Yellow as my second car, but went for the White Viva with dark blue vinyl roof instead!
grahame
And here's your nearly yellow 3-door hatch: G.
grahame
I've been checking out pics of real Chevettes to see how much detail contrast painting is necessary. It seems they were very plain without much trim or fancy pin stripes which is pleasing as it should make finishing easier and quicker. And it seems that yellow was a common colour : https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=vauxhall+chevette+yellow&qpvt=vauxhall+chevette+yellow&FORM=IGRE G. I spent today cleaning and sanding mine....very spooky......yellow hatch, red saloon....but did the estate in silver. The vauxpedianet website is excellent been on my faves for a while. grahame
I spent today cleaning and sanding mine....very spooky......yellow hatch, red saloon....but did the estate in silver. Double spooky - I did look at the silver and metallic grey aerosols I had for the estate but decided against it. I find metallic car paint doesn't scale well and silver makes it difficult for picking out chrome trim, bumpers and lights. G
grahame
And weren't silver cars a 1990s fad, with grey becoming more popular in the noughties? Could be wrong. G

Silver was a Chevette colour even back in 1977. Edited July 25, 2018 by acg5324
Marly51
Slowly getting there . . . . . DSC_6189.JPG G. Lovely work Grahame! I have two old oil depots to model and hoping our local oil depot will advise me about pipework, access ladders etc. for the oil tanks, so they are reasonably accurate. grahame
For a small car-derived van I'd prefer an Escort or Marina van - and several of them. I wonder if RailNScale would consider producing them? G
BernardTPM
As they already do the 1980s Escort they might be tempted to do the van version of that.
grahame
As they already do the 1980s Escort they might be tempted to do the van version of that. Yes, that was what I was thinking, although their current Escort is a mk3 and I was wondering about perhaps a MK1 or 2. G

And they do seem to favour the camping/caravaning genre (which is not so good for an urban environment). ;-) G

grahame
Camping is a big thing in the Netherlands, lots of people have there own pitch. Not so sure I'd want to camp next to a railway line and would think it incongruous to see a camp site on a model railway layout near the tracks. Although it is often strange what cameos people add to their layouts - squeezing them in to odd tiny spaces around the railway. G
