Plenty of camping/caravan sites next to the railway. Just south of Berwick-on-Tweed on the ECML, And along the South Devon coast come to mind.

The RailNscale Renault Traffic camper looks good. I thought it had potential as an ambulance too, with the raised roofline.

Maybe, but that doesn't make them ideal camp sites. Think of the noise from overnight sleepers, frieght and engineers trains and not being able to see them because it's dark.

Many years ago we had a family holiday Berwick, just north of the town in a chalet......Deltics all day what wasn’t to like.

I’ve also stayed at a holiday park next to the railway line in Tenby about 1982 that had a camper and tent area.

Hi all,

The Chevette's look superb; what a great little model! Who'd of thought there would ever be an easy route to a 2mm Chevanne too?!

Does anyone know how the Antwerp-built Cavaliers were imported into and distributed around the UK? I'm guessing they came in via Harwich (?) but did they move by rail or road? The idea of a train load of new Cavaliers would be a great model, if it happened.

Cheers,

Pix

Not so sure I'd want to camp next to a railway line and would think it incongruous to see a camp site on a model railway layout near the tracks. Although it is often strange what cameos people add to their layouts - squeezing them in to odd tiny spaces around the railway. :nono:

There’s a campsite next to the east Lancashire railway but granted it’s a heritage line

Had an email from Maurice at RailNscale today. I had asked were there any plans for some British cars that sold well in Europe. He has quite a few projects on the go including some of British Leylands finest. I won’t list what was mentioned but hopefully we won’t be disappointed. He did say that anything that isn’t in 1/148 yet he will make from the 1/160 Models, just let him know what you want.

Any thoughts of 1:76 versions?

I doubt it. The company is called RailNscale - they specialise in N gauge/N scale. If you check their website you'll see they offer their vehicle models in 1:160, 1:148, 1:144 and 1:120 scales.

That's good news. I hope the Leylands includes Marinas, Sherpas, Princesses, Metros, and the like.

I don't have his email but in terms of upscaling the 1:160 Renault 5 in 1:148 would be nice.

The van racks (roof and side) are interesting and a great idea for detailing and individualising some vehicles. However I'd probably scratch build them from styrene strip and would have thought they would better lend themselves to etching in metal for a finer look.

Soehaves have produced their Scania 141 (mid 70s to early 80s?) truck as an open chassis version ripe for kit bashing by allowing for various configurations as a modifiable design with separate components. It looks very nice although rather expensive and is currently 1:160 but perhaps he'll do it as 1:148 as he does others in 1:148  :

The other refrigerated box body version with trailer is also rather expensive but also looks very nice and is 1:148:

Renault 5 now available from RailNscale in 1/148 and RHD.

Yep, I had noticed that a few days back. But I'm waiting until they announce a few more 70/80s cars in 1:148 to make an order worthwhile with the overseas postage or there is a special offer on a multi-pack - especially as Shapeways have increased prices and one N gauge sized car is now around £10: https://www.shapeways.com/product/T7RUTZW2Y/renault-5-gtl-british-n-1-148?li=shareProduct&optionId=70961841

RailNscale have announced that the prices of their models on Shapeways will increase from 1 January 2019, due to the change in the algorithm that Shapeways is introducing for calculating prices. It increases the fixed minimum price element which will have a disproportionate impact on the prices of small N items.

Here is a link to the announcement on the French N Forum, and the confirmation of the changeover date for prices is in their post at 19.03h on 29 October 2018.
