Thanks acg5324, I had a quick look at his site on ebay theres a lot of potential there shame that they are solid vehicles and that the windows are filled ,possibly you may be able to drill out? I hav'nt tried this in resin. only in white metal.

Some very interesting trucks and vans . Regards Ray.

The Commer is a welcome addition, but could I suggest that the windscreen is sloping rather too far back, and the roof appears a little "flat"?

I'll have another look at this thank you.

the Commer is an excellent choice @Tricky-CRSHow about a nice simple fire engine. This one is a Kent V AKS with a body by HCB, but others had similar. The boxy body might help in design. The photo is from Roger Mardon's excellent fire history site.

A similar looking one is on the initial list oddly, the only issue is I have not found a picture looking at the back. Found a few pictures of 1 vehicle taken from multiple angles and both sides but not a great view of the back.

@Tricky-CRS Richard, I have some rear views of the Kent version, which I will PM you tomorrow. It may or may not correspond to the one you have all round photos for. There was also 3 page Vintage Roadscene article in the last two years.

I have reviewed this, this evening I agree about the roof and have asked for a modification to be made. I think I have either chosen a poor prototype or wrong modelling method as we are mot real showing the windscreen. The wind screen is bowed out in front of the frame line on the model. If I was modelling this with a solid cab we would see both lines, the other option would be clear resin. From what I have seen clear resin is not truly clear and not what I would want to model at the moment.

Hi Richard,

I haven't had the chance to read the whole blog, yet, and I might be talking out of context; however, clear resin is achievable.  Although I haven't reached the stage to print my AEC Matador 6x6 yet,

I have done a few aircraft and the canopies have come out very clear.

This model is to 1:144 scale, almost N Gauge.

I printed this on an Anycubic Photon S printer.

cheers,
Mike

Which specific brand of clear resin did you use for that canopy. It looks really good.

Hello otherplanet,

I used Anycubic's standard clear UV resin.  I use a different method with clear prints to get this result, that is not to use any wash & cure system.  IPA is fine for coloured resins but I find that IPA is too aggressive on clear resin and I believe it is the wash that makes the clear parts go opaque.

These prints were my first and I used IPA to wash them, that is when I noticed their change to opaque.

The method I use is to remove the print from the printer plate then, whilst the piece is still on its supports, give the piece a firm tap on a hard surface or give it a shake to remove any excess resin.  Then just stand the part in the sun to cure.  Here is another example of not washing clear items.

Hi Trewesin,

yes, making the clear parts as a separate item allows for the painting of the main body separately, then add the clear item.

Hi Mike

That looks great, please can I ask what wall thickness you have used on the that model in clear resin?

Hi  Mike  I like your Matador  I am impressed  @acg5324 Andy posted an item last week ref rayrimes1 that was advertising on ebay. He has a few military models  RAF for sale which are 3D printed .I didn't realise that there was a group of modellers out there that seem to specialise in this sort of thing I thought it was just the every day traffic that we see on our roads. As I said in one of my previous texts on this page im interested in some David Brown RAF aircraft tugs 1940-1950.

Hi Ray,

I am new to this game, hence why I am following this thread.  I have been able to do the Matador as there were such good plans available, free and on-online at Mick Bell plans.  I haven't seen anything on the David Brown tractors.

cheers,
Mike

Hi Tricky-crs ,Thats fantastic the cabs look a lot better this time. As Mike @Royal42 said using clear plastic and painting the rest of the cab area might solve the problem. Thanks for your efforts and info Mike. Regads Ray

Here's a pic by Maurice of Osborns of a test print of their forthcoming Bedford TK mixer truck. Apparently the cab is removeable and according to their website they are planning "to release this in various rigid and articulated body styles including a rigid chassis cab as a train load. In the pipeline various body types based on the TK Bedford rigid chassis and Articulated trailers for a TK tractor"
