The Low siphon is an oldish kit, I've got three of them to service the dairy, slightly overkill, but why not :)

(Edit, just seen your update, I see yours are the same. :) )

I started by masking the windows out with maskol, then some nice weathered black really help to take the shine off. Once that was dry, a quick dusting with some matt varnished finished that part of the work.

Also had a play with a guards van.. Not quite sure, might have over done the weathering.. 20200131_205553.jpg.e5808a9b8c0dd44a3736b91c42535c21.jpg

Nice one Scott, I do like the Toad. My only 'observation' is the cleanliness of the footboards. I haven't seen a clean real one yet!

Cheers,

Ian.

I ordered a H&P Peckett about a year a when Hornby announced that they would do another batch. Totally then forgot about it until the postman arrived a few months back and gave me a parcel. It's in a really nice presentation box, almost too nice, I like to run trains, not put them up on a shelf.

Hornby in their magic wisdom have made it fit a non-standard decoder, that's also rarer than hens teeth! So I bought a super small Zimo chip with the intention of hard wiring it, so in we go!

That little adaptor will come off and I'll butcher something in there :)

Which all worked fine.. Castle Down now serves the H&P factory for it's coal.

Managed to have a few little running sessions recently, good fun!! Got the track all cleaned up and did a little shunting. Some of my wagons have started to have some more very light weathering, nothing too serious, but that Southern Van at the back just looked too plastic. A quick wash with diluted black ink and some powder and it looks so much better. I'm not quite ready to do the same with the Oxford Rail PO wagon in the foreground that's very, very red!

Next job on the bench is to finish some very overdue wagon loads, so out with the paints....

I kept looking at the Dapol GWR railcars, I like them, but as they don't offer a huge amount of operational interest I wasn't sure.. I kept coming back to them though, kept coming back, oh, they are nice.. Why not..

It's really nice.. So the people of Castle Down now get the joy of the nice shinny new Railcar, new seats, all clean and shinny.

I went to order a chip and couldn't quite decide which way yo go. So ended up going nuts and ordering a sound chip from youchoos! The nice people provided one with a stay alive capacitor too.

It's much more involved with their realistic drive setup, so makes it more interesting and justifies the purchase a little more :) She is a very sweet runner and now a sweet sounding one too.

Thanks for all the likes on the pictures of my progress... :)

I've had four bogies sat on the bench for a few weeks now, ready to go under the Hornby Clerestory coaches. The Hornby ones have a giant coupling, white walled tyres and I understand are a little long..

As was and then the first one going together. Time will tell if it's worth the effort!

That's good to know, thanks Scott. Can I ask where you got the replacement bogies?

Has anyone tried trimming to corridor connections off the Clerestories?

I fitted mine with replacement ends from Keen Systems.  (The Hornby ends just slide out vertically).   They're detailed resin items and include representations of the appropriate scissors-type gangways with the Keen Systems floating endplates to facilitate close coupling.  (Though I don't use the Keen Systems close coupling method, just hook & bar couplings as close as they will go and still get round the curves).

Have a look at the Keen Systems website.  (Usual disclaimer.)

I've also used these as well, they make a big difference.

I also fitted the SE Finecast flush glazing, fiddly but makes a big difference

I used the Keen system on my B set and for that matter the flush glazing (And Autocoach). Not quite sure I'm ready for another session of flush glazing, it drove me mad!

With the knowledge that if I butcher the coach ends I could buy some more, I took a saw to the inner ends and trimmed off the Hornby plastic corridors. Then attaching some paper corridors.

I've also built a hook and loop system to close couple them and used two lengths of fuse wire to mimic the vacuum brake and steam heating pipes. Also new close couplings on the new bogies helps as these had the HUGE old type.
