With that - make sure you are measuring from railhead rather than sat on the desk as the large flanges of the Electrotren chassis will make it appear taller ;)

partly but in this case the wheel diameters are simply a bit bigger than I would like ideally and the electrotren flanges aren't too large, at some point I'm going to have to start experimenting with Alan Gibson or similar wheels to get the size I want for some of my models or I may try to swap over some peckett wheels if i can get hold of them as they're smaller

As Sir Douglas says, eBay - search for 'N20 motor' and be careful to find a 12v one, most are 3v or 6v

OK, how about a gearbox so this will drive an axle the same as a Portascap ... used one 35 years ago remotering an R1

Just to let anyone whose interested know I've started a workbench thread in 'modifying and detailing rolling stock' called Adam's Workbench - CAD, 3D printing, bashing RTR locos etc

Excellent. I'll be sure to check it out.

High Level Kits have the best range of gearboxes, and Chris is very helpful.

Realised I forgot to post any photos of my On30 Mining Loco. Turned out quite nice in the end. No idea what I'm gonna do with it lol.

Your new project is to build a small layout for it to run on! We look forward to seeing progress on this new project.

Cheers John, I think I used either Medium Sea Grey or Light Ghost Grey, can't remember which I'm afraid!

Hi DKGL,

Really like what you've done to the pug; looks very believable.  Could you share what you use in terms of new chimney, dome, safety valve cover, etc? (Always looking for ideas!)

Thanks.

Regards,

Alex.

The Dome is the original Dapol one, and the Chimney & safety Valve cover, were from an old K's kit, and just shortened the handrails. Buffers were from the spares box again, and I think that's all I replaced.

It was originally meant for a 0-16.5 loco I was building, but never finished.

Yes, Double Fairlie - and as you can see, I have enough Matchbox locos left to build another one....

I've no idea what the chassis is, but you may be right. Ideally I'd like to put a bit of tubing in the cab to complete the boiler and hide the motor, but I don't have any just now....

It's 009(ish) - as the Matchbox locos are just toys they aren't to any particular scale, however my converted Matchbox coaches don't look out of place on a 009 layout.

The bridge is based on the bridge over the river Rheidol near Llanbadarn.

Not my creation, but I do own it.

The KLR's newest addition, the as yet unnamed No.20. Bought for relatively cheap off eBay, is a Smokey Joe with a lot of new parts added and a custom built chassis (though still using the same old motor for some reason).

Not sure if this is considered a pugbash, but I got this Hornby 0-4-0 (the gwr one) and I made it an open cab 0-4-2. I know the paint is rough, but i couldn't be bothered to scrape the old paint off, and it looks good enough for me. Sorry about the photos being on my bed, I don't have a layout yet.

I’m planning on turning a pug into a Hawthorn Leslie (3865 ‘Singapore’ specifically)

the boiler may be a bit long but I just need to add a cab back plate, move the safety valves and whistle.

could anyone give any advice on extending the saddle tank?

plastikard perhaps?
