Agreed. Looks simple enough to do theoretically.

It also has the notable advantage of being a well-known technique which worked quite well. Indeed, since condensing systems were known to be limited by the capacity of the tanks (the Beyer Peacock 4-4-0 Metropolitan Tanks apparently required the water in the tanks changing for cold, after an hour or so) then long runs of uninsulated external pipework seem to be at least, worth a try.

I wouldn't say ugly, eccentric undoubtedly, but not unduly so.

Quick update on my take on the Hornby 0-4-0 - big accomplishment is the building of the frame extensions and installation of a magnet and cab floor to secure the body to the chassis (the cab floor slots under part of the original motor mount). I'm slowly working towards adding the motor - the tiny Bachmann motor I was using isn't powerful enough to run the Toby chassis so it's getting replaced by an N20 at some point. The 0-6-0 chassis certainly does suit this body much better than the 0-4-0.

Very nice - the livery suits it too I think.

This is possibly the worst 'thing' I've ever built. A stationary display model that i made at 1am because i was very, very bored. It'll be spray painted all black but I need to add some more bits too it. I think the worst thing about it is the floating trailing wheels. Oh well, as long as I like it I guess.20200716_125620.jpg.bdea124edd260b4d5d8ba8452abad2c4.jpg20200716_125637.jpg.3e07f22cd5c6d5b20f1ac85466946bf2.jpg

A few pieces of plasticard and some glue and you could have something like this

I might have simply overlooked this, but although OO9 got a mention, I haven’t seen any of those inside-cylinder OOn3 0-6-0 locos built on Triang TT Jintys?

I have an 009 loco using a TT Jinty body with larger cab (currently on a knackered Lilliput 0-6-2 chassis which may need replacing) which is one way of doing a Jintybash. I think in the past the version using the whole Jinty, often with Airfix pug cab, was quite popular for 00n3.

Not really sure whether this fits here but it seems like the kind of thing you'd post here even thoygh its not a Hornby 0-4-0...

Here's my little experiment:20200721_000321.jpg.f0e16bc140be0e51b28bce79fc6b3b26.jpg20200721_000330.jpg.8399c5d35dfb5b90010a7becc0a0e449.jpg20200721_000345.jpg.26d8ad6c2c60080b84441a562b2092d5.jpgA little shunting tractor made from an oxford diecast traction engine. More work needs to be done tomorrow. Also fortunately a Hornby clip in coupling fits snugly at the back without any glue, and can be removed at any time.

Are you going to try to motorise it?

I've been working on a different traction engine shunter project, and have chosen my prototype very carefully to make motorising it easier. This one wouldn't be the easiest as there's so much open space under the boiler, so nowhere to hide things, but a suitably small motor could fit... pickups and traction(!) might be an issue though

yeah. while there is space in the firebox there's not enough room to motorise him. however im planning on making a motorised wagon.

Due to a multitude of reasons its now in pieces and cannot be rebuilt. However I'm planning to make the mk2 version better, starting with it being motorised, plus a better paintjob.

Razor saw, swann-morton blades, files, squadron green putty, tweezers, wet and dry sandpaper, filler primer

Possibly add a sedative (strong drink)?
