Welcome to my new WB thread,,,,,,,,

As the title implies, the thread will mainly consist of fitting and upgrading lighting and sound options on DCC locos and stock. It will also include, at a later date some re-painting/ re-numbering etc of locos and stock once I get the new indoor dedicated painting area up and running etc.

First up is Heljan R/F Class 26 010.

The model was completely stripped to the bare metal chassis, to allow metal removal to "squeeze" in one of the new Zimo 3D printed enclosure Twin Dumbo's, followed by a complete re-wire.  The model uses a Zimo MX645R ActiveDrive sound decoder with SA capacitor - the biggest I could get to fit in the limited space. It now features 6 function LED lighting, including new cab lights, which auto switch off/on with movement.

The original bogie frames were replaced with the correct early 26/0 leaf spring type (for 26 010) and angled cab foot steps, using spares.

Other mods included fitting full BB detailing with ploughs and Kadee couplings, flushing the original front cab glazing, so the wipers now touch the glass

.

I'm very pleased indeed with the sound quality and driveability of the Zimo decoder/speaker combination, they work really well together.

Thanks go to Paul Chetter for his help with some minor issues.

Ken

Fixing the livery error on 37 401 - some delicate masking and black paint - that looks better - sorted. The yellow band is also missing on the roof leading edges, but less noticeable than the window black.

BE AWARE Bachmann appear to be using a stronger solvent, tried to remove the glazing and the air horns - nope no chance  - glued solid !

Recently picked this up cheap as a non-runner - 5 mins later and it runs perfectly - I do love a bargain ! A few marks on the roof but otherwise mint.
It will be re-worked as D6607 Ben Cruachan with sound and full DCC lighting control etc................
More to follow.............

Nice work, I always wanted a ' 403.

Only saw it once, back in 1998, leaving FW with the sleeper in driving rain.

I also remember leaving my GF in the travel lodge whilst I went to have a look - she wasn't best pleased being dumped for a train....

Back to finishing Ben's chassis mods.......

To get the large bass reflex speaker to fit. I removed the bottom edge to reduce it's depth slightly, and glued a new bottom made from plasticard, with extensions to secure the speaker in the tanks.

The chassis block was also modified to allow the plastic base plate to fit flush with the chassis block, the speaker now fitting flush with the tank bottom also.

The original circuit board has been replaced with a Loksound 51968 Adaptor board, along with a custom made connection board using SMD resistors. A second Bass Enhanced (8ohm) speaker is fitted to the chassis under the fan wired in parallel. Due to replacing the factory circuit board, a new mini circuit board had to made up for the No2 end cab light contacts. Lighting is now 6 function DCC controlled. Sound via - Bif's excellent WH 37/4.

Where did you get the motorbogie from?

I've had them for some time, pending using them or not...........  They were originally produced by Tech-Cad design I think ? but AFAIK no longer exist.  I've some re-painted bodyshells that really deserve better chassis.................

The first Class 56 project nears completion -

0805 SMD Warm White and Red LED's are used along with some copper clad board cut to size. The model now features directional switchable tail-lights via F1

Black sticky goo used to help secure the cab inserts and also block any light getting into the cab from the top headlight.

The re-sprayed bodyshell with etched nameplates/arrows and depot plaques

Any questions etc - please ask

Presently working on a similar conversion on 56 130 Loadhaul "Wardley Opencast"

Ken

Nearing completion on the bench - BR Blue 37 263 with chassis mounted EM2 speaker and Biff's "magical" 37/0 Wensleydale sound file.  Features 8 function soft start LED lighting with switch sounds, auto switching cab lights, scratch built working Scottish Car type headlights, Kadee shuffle enabled etc, a lot of work - but WOW it sounds just brilliant !

Transfers used are by DRD  - well recommended.

Next task - trying to sort out my photos after this Photobucket farce !

Regards

Ken

Latest project, trying to get an EM2 speaker fitted into a Bachmann 47.

Will it fit ? well yes, maybe, but it requires a lot of work, a 37 being far easier.  The major problem is getting the body to fit back on properly ! (The 47 body being shallower than a 37)  The chassis frame and the tanks (battery boxes only type) require some major surgery, to lower the motor, so it sits inside the tank area..............but the flywheels then foul the floor/tank assembly -  more work...........it's one of these projects you wish you just never started !!

Due to the design of the cast chassis, it's not possible to fit the speaker in the middle, cutting the speaker recess would leave you with a 2 part chassis ! . Even with the speaker at either end, there's very little left holding the chassis together.........

However, I've not given up just yet............more to follow........................
