tractor_37260
Well after a lots of cursing and head scratching etc, I finally got an EM2 fitted into a Bachmann 47......a lot of work, hopefully the resulting sound will be worth it ? need to order a re-blown Mid Norfolk file from Charlie/Biff............ To get the body to fit back on properly, the motor is now mounted just inside the tank moulding, the chassis floor and tank moulding had to be cut to allow running clearance for the flywheels, the cardan shafts now "just clear" the rear of the bogie frame mouldings, the motor now being so low, the shafts are angled slightly upwards to the drive worms, hopefully it's going to run OK. I also had to cut a rebate out of the bottom edge on one side of the speaker to allow the bogie pivot to turn. As can be seen, there is very little left holding the metal chassis together.... depending on how good it sounds and IF I decide to do another, I would probably put the speaker in the middle, meaning the metal chassis would then be left in 2 parts, but the bottom plastic frame and the glue holding the speaker "should" keep it all together - in-line etc............ a couple of thin strips of metal/brass etc could be used to join/strengthen the the 2 chassis parts if found necessary.

tractor_37260
That is hardcore Ken, More like a rolling speaker than a chassis now ! Indeed - after all the effort - just hope the resulting sound will be worthwhile ? else I'll be seriously pi**ed off..................

tractor_37260
My first EM2 fitted Baccy 47 is finally complete ! It was a lot of work - far more than doing a 37, the biggest issue was getting the drive shafts to clear the rear of the bogie housing assemblies, the motor now being fitted so low to allow a deep enough chassis recess for the speaker,so the body would fit on properly. I had to resort to cutting a piece off the top of each bogie housing so the drive shafts would clear without fouling. All I need now is the 47/7 MN re-blown file I ordered , it's running in at present using a 37/4 one !! with the body on it sounds mighty impressive....................
tractor_37260
Latest project - Upgrading my new Realtrack Barbie 156 with extra speakers. A 20mm square Hi Bass QSI speaker fits snugly in the tank with a little tacky glue to secure it, the plate I made to seal the tank/speaker was a waste of time, as there is an opening between the chassis floor and the tank top edge, it being "hung" from the floor. The 8ohm speakers were wired in parallel to give a 4ohm load. I also took the opportunity to get rid of that PITA sticky tape that secured the wiring, it sticks to "everything" and makes removing the body awkward, substituted with small pieces of black tack. I also drilled small holes in the circuit board at each end so the pick-up wiring could now pass through it, rather than around it, the existing holes in center of the board were also used to tidy up the new speaker and motor wiring. The 2nd speaker gives a lot more body to the sound, a worthwhile improvement. Just have to do the other car now.................and fit a driver and some passengers ( once they arrive from China ? ) Edited January 21, 2018 by tractor_37260
tractor_37260
Presently on the WB : testing various types of recently built Car type spotlights as fitted to many Scottish Region locos. Look forward to installing a pair of these on the new L/E 37 114 Dunrobin Castle once it arrives. In the mean time, as an example, these are fitted to a model I completed some time back, it was originally an early Bachmann Green 37 D6707 with BB cowls. A couple of things I prefer about the earlier (second or third version ?) Bachmann Split Box 37's, they got the gap between the side nose grills and the sandbox fillers more or less correct - ie no bulbous nose ends.......and of course there's NO trench under the cant rail grilles either ! tractor_37260
Now that the DBSO's have finally arrived, it's time to sort out the lighting on those Shove Duff's. As supplied Bachmann 47/7's have a tank switch to switch off the tail lights, in the case of a 47/7 we require the tail lights (only) ON when propelling the stock, that's not possible with the standard lighting. I've stripped this loco and removed the tank switches and wiring. By altering the wiring, the tail lights are now connected to Aux 1 & 2 function outputs, independently controlled by F Keys. A second function only decoder is also fitted to control the cab lights directionally as well as on/off, again via F Keys. The original push-on wiring clips have all been discarded, all connections are now soldered. A standard 40x20 speaker is fitted into a fully sealed chassis enclosure, used with an SWD Lok 4 UDrive+ sound decoder. The ETH fitting has been moved to the cab front, with a cable fitted from fine coated wire.
tractor_37260
Latest project on the WB Trial fitting ESU DCC LED interior lighting strips to coaches. With some adjustment they should fit fine.. for the MK3A's the strips will require extending with linking wire to light the end vestibules. The brightness is adjustable, they are at max in the photos. It's also possible to control groups of LED's which will be handy for brake coaches etc. I'll be adding a small SA Cap, to ensure no flickering occurs. Look promising so far.......just to sort out the pick-up wiring and the tail light LED''s on the 2F BSO. 1
tractor_37260
Wired up the bogie pick-ups today and was considering where best to cut the strip to get the best spread of light - ARGH - the strip stopped working before I even got it cut or fitted ..********** hopefully in will be replaced FOC. The SA cap will fit nicely in the toilet - on top of the john Edited December 31, 2018 by tractor_37260
tractor_37260
Recently completed fitting interior lighting to my 1st MK3A coach using an extended ESU DCC 50708 lighting strip. Very pleased with the result, the fluorescent flickering effect on switch on is impressive, you can either switch on the complete coach or individual groups of LED's . After testing, decided an extra SA cap was not required, the existing on-board buffer cap proving sufficient. I cut and shut the light strip to make it longer, by adding a cutting from another strip, fitted in reverse to get a LED in the vestibule area at one end. I also piggy - backed a further single LED to fill in a lighting gap. The toilet rear walls also had to be reduced in height, to allow the light to get in. inspectorsands
Great models. What are you using as your car type spotlights on the 26 and the 37? At some point I will need a pair for my class 86 'Hardwicke', but haven't seen anything suitable? Many thanks.

Of note the Black band round the top edge of the front cab windows, unlike L/L 37 401 etc, has been applied correctly this time. Great service from Derails, price matched the big box shifters and delivered FREE via RM 24hr Special Delivery - well recommended - would use again.

Those EM2 beauties are fantastic- its inspired me to have a look at some upgrades on the speakers for mine now! I've just ordered an EM1 to try out in conjunction with a sugarcane that I already have- probably going to see what I can do with my 26s first. Yep really enjoyed the catch up ER , and the chance to run those "beasts" ........will bring the R/F 26 next time with Paul Chetter's ActiveDrive and twin Zimo dumbo speakers (see top of this thread) For full underframe tanked 26/27's Charlie's tank replacement moulding with a 20 x 48 speaker is worth considering, can only find the speaker on his latest site ? not the enclosure with speaker. https://www.dckits-devideos.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=223_75&product_id=394 Plenty info above if you wish to try fitting an EM2 into a 47 - but a lot of work, not quite as good as the 37's, but still impressive.....
