I knew I had a picture of the bikes somewhere, I think I posted them last year but here they are again....

Careful cutting, filing and a lot patience needed.

Nice models though when finished

Kevin, did you fimd that you needed to add some substance to the seat to make it more rounded? I was asked to paint and weather one of these a couple of years ago, and thought that the seat was a bit flat so added a blob of PVA before painting. It did make a difference.

Me neither!

I prefer this chap:

I’ve seen one these up close and personal and they are very effective.
No room for one on this layout though!

Yes.

Trouble is I can’t remember exactly what I did but I seem to recall filing around the perimeter before fitting then adding some glue as well....

What a rubbish kit, they haven't even included the spokes!

Took me a couple of reads to understand that because for some reason I read it as Cat Flap and was picturing you trying one for size.

and never forget; a Yorkshireman is just a Scotsman with all the generosity kicked out of him.

You're supposed to pull your hair out and use that!

Or you could try spider's web. On a school visit to RGO at Herstmonceux Castle we were shown the transit telescope, and told that for cross wires in the eye piece they used spider silk as it was so fine and unaffected by temperature - fine metal wires bowed on expansion. Apparently you find the right spider, keep it in a matchbox until it calms down (so the silk isn't lumpy), let it spin a web and sample from that.

Ideally of course you train the spider to spin the spokes in situ for you.

Those bicycles look just the job, thankyou. The Singer open diamond frame bicycle seems an odd choice when most were built to the Humber safety cycle design. I think I would extend the seat tube down to the bottom bracket with a bit of wire, as building those kits will no doubt involve some highly specialized profanity.

Putting the spokey-dokeys on is a nightmare, the spider keeps running out trying to eat them...

Cathcott cottages are all but done so it has been down on the dining room table having its picture taken from unusual angles that could not be done on the layout.

A few for now

The detail...simple stunning pavement/street work! Should be writing a how-to on this!
