I have never understood the aversion to split chassis for DCC. The same principle applies to every DCC installation - isolating the motor brushes from everything but the grey and orange wires will work every time. Thanks. Following this I noticed I had typed black instead of grey.....

MrWolf
Maybe electricity is just a cover up. Electrical items are actually POWERED by smoke. Because once the smoke leaks out, they don't work anymore. I'll get me coat... 1 4
RMweb Premium Dragonboy Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 9, 2020 I remember years ago watching a metal bodied Graham Farish pannier running on my then layout, and thinking that smoke really looks very realistic. Penny dropped that it shouldn’t be happening so I instinctively grabbed and instantly dropped the red hot loco. I never worked out what caused it but the loco was kaput and I had to put a replacement in.

Popular Post KNP
Cambrian GWR crane and match wagon kit build work done. Couple of coats of dark wagon grey applied and currently sitting in siding curing. I plan to use S & W couplings at each end with a 3 link joining them. Chains to add once painting complete. Now we know how they plan to lift the door....!!!! 25 8

MrWolf
Don't need a hook, emergency bodge with 3 ton D link and a couple of webbing strops straight onto the hoist chain. 1

A point of information Kevin:- Are the eyes at either side of the front of the match truck mounts for a rod across the truck that the hook hooks onto, or are they lifting eyes, or what.....?? Hooks can be dangerous if not fixed in any way? Great model by the way! Cheers Paul

Cheers Paul They are used when the crane is travelling, a chain links up with boom from the eyes to form a triangle - allowing for any bends of course so the boom can’t swing freely. 1
RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2020 Lovely neat model, that would have taken me a month to do ! I’m puzzled by the mechanism that raises the jib- it appears to be rigidly attached to the crane body by substantial metal straps- is there a rack and pinion device hidden from view? 1
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2020 I just made a mental note not to have a crane visible on any layout - everyone is apparently a crane smartass! 1 1 13
