I was thinking a Ship Chandler, being it's next to the harbour. But it will interesting to hear what KNP has in mind - unless there's enough local trade to support two pubs...
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted April 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2021 Back then, there would have been plenty of trade. When I was a kid back in the late 50s early 60s there were pubs or shops on a lot of corners, now mostly gone and converted to dwellings.
Popular Post KNP
The future of The Station PH and adjoining shops is unclear, I have made no firm decision whether to keep or redevelop. Latest on The Unicorn is that I have lined the roof with card (used index as I had some lying around), raised ridge, painted leadwork and built the eyebrow dormers. Now all I have to do is work out how to thatch it???? Edited April 14, 2021 by KNP 20 6

RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted April 15, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2021 May I venture to suggest that, as The Station pub arrived with the railway, it ought to be thriving (despite the recent recession) and drinkers may have been tempted from the old fashioned Unicorn Inn which has survived by diversifying.
KNP
And don't forget The Station PH could have be renamed to celebrate the arrival of the railway! 1
