Here I have tried something different by switching off the LED lights, using the main room light and the portable daylight bulb on the tripod but without the diffuser umbrella. Gives the hint of a shadow and sheen on the boiler. Then I tried it in monochrome Edited March 29 by KNP 37 3

MrWolf
Interesting stuff. I have Minks C and D in bits somewhere. I think that I had better watch how it's done properly! 1

MrWolf
Does anyone recognise this breed of Mink? I am assuming that it is meant to be a fitted "brown vehicle" ?

At the moment, after consulting with my oracle GWR Goods Wagons, I think it is a Mink B with sliding doors. Is it a 12ft wheelbase? MrWolf
Thanks, it's 12' WB and 21' over headstocks. It has a crude vac cylinder moulded as part of the floor. No maker's name.

RMweb Gold Nick C Posted June 20, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20, 2021 Could be an early Kirk kit maybe? This site lists a few Minks in that range - http://www.gwr.org.uk/kits4wagons.html

No maker's name. I stick with a Mink B but an early one as it has no vents or louvres fitted. Diagram V2 built between 1903 - 1904 but the end bracing looks odd as mine shows it as a cross, not saying it’s wrong as there where different versions from different builders. Pictures from my book. Hope this helps. 1
MrWolf
Thank you Kevin, for the information and letting me divert the thread into the goods loop. At first I thought it was a Kirk V7, but it has internal sliding doors and different style ends without vents. I think that Mink B from around 1910.is looking likely.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 20, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20, 2021 (edited) Talking of minks and can I give a blatant plug for the forthcoming mini-poll coming this Wednesday 30th on my layout thread for them please. RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted June 20, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20, 2021 Hello Rob As noted in the Results of GWR Mini-Poll No.1, we have changed the marshalling order... Wednesday 23 June will be: GWR 00 Rolling Stock Mini-Poll No.2: Passenger Brake Vans, Monsters & BR-built Siphon G. Readers here will be most welcome. The one for Minks is now scheduled for Wednesday 30 June (but subject to late change depending on 'matters arising'). Brian 1

RMweb Gold Donw Posted June 20, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20, 2021 I did wonder if it was a fruit C which would be in brown. Don 2
MrWolf
This one, according to the box it came in is a Smith's Mink C V3/V7. It's an early resin body with whitemetal fittings and scale wheels. You can see how crisp the injection molding of the Kirk kit is by comparison and the difference in height of the prototype. 2
KNP
I now think its a Bloater to diagram S6 built around 1912 and painted brown which would explain why the colour of the moulding. These vans had internal sliding doors whereas the Minks had external sliding doors. 3 1
