Cough, cough, splutter, splutter etc.....back to the drawing board I suppose?

Almost exactly the same experience is available at Bishops Lydeard (WSR).

I can vouch for this as I tried much the same, about a month back. Can't share

the evidence, as the autofocus on the camera was so confused, it refused to

waste the (digital) "film".

I am old enough to remember walking to school and standing on a foot bridge on purpose. Just to feel the steam.

Me too!

I had to cross the long footbridge spanning Luton Bute Street and Luton Midland Road Stations. While the Midland had gone over to DMUs and Diesel haulage for the Moorgate trains, over on Bute Street there was a Leighton Buzzard to Luton , and return morning 2 coach auto train. The Ivatt 2-6-2 that pushed/pulled this stood with its chimney directly under the footbridge awaiting the off back to LB.

Those were the days!!

On my walks to school, over the footbridge that spanned the Chester/Holyhead line, I only ever saw blue diesels...

On my walks from school over the North Tyne Loop I only saw DMUs. They were green mind you, and sometimes I was lucky with a Clayton on the trip freight.  Always late on the way to school so couldn’t stop.

Some drivers would have done that deliberately.

At Ladybank in Fife (as in many other places, of course), the footbridge is of open lattice construction. More than one driver would stop in just the right (wrong?) position to be able to look up through the lattice work and observe the passengers as they crossed...

Mrs Farmer: "But Bert I've just vacuumed the shed and dusted the shelves"

Mr Farmer: "But dear it's the tractor shed!!!"

Mrs Farmer: "Yes dear but it was so dirty, and why did you have to get the tractor so muddy and dirty after you promised to take more care?"

Mr Farmer: "Ummmm.....Dear that's what 'appens to tractors, they get dirty"

Mrs Farmer: "If you say so Bert, but the WI was talking about it ..... and they're such gossips"

And we all know which passengers they were looking at ;)   Very much like carefully sited benches in station booking halls where if there was room to provide a bench for passengers etc to sit down it was always directly opposite the booking office window.

Yesterday my 12 yr old grandson Bradley was here after school and went up and ‘played with the railway’ for a while.

I could hear stuff moving around and then this morning he sent me some pictures he took on his phone using various settings..

I have to say I was rather impressed….

I think this lad needs to come again. His photography skills are excellent for one so young.
