Are the rods upside down?

Yes, when I put the loco back together after taking the motor out I put the wheels back in, effectively upside down, realised and thought I’ll sort when I’ve got a minute….!

Not found that minute yet????

Been like that for ages…..might do something about….. when I have a minute that is!!!!

I should have known that. Well that's me feeling stupid for the rest of the week

I didn’t know that either, thought they where some form of counter balance.

Learn something every day….

I thought you had fitted the new “Hydrostatic” upside down oil system…. It was tried out in the 1930’s and wasn’t popular….. :-) It never caught on!

All the motion has oil reservoirs to lubricate the bearings, to plug the hole a tapered cork is pushed in that has a reed through the middle to allow the pot to breathe otherwise the oil wont be able to trickle out

I'll find a picture in my BR  Enginmans hand book later

Found the Black Book...

20211201_230505.jpg.b4099385e6d224c770c51b7266ba0dce.jpg

These were issued to all BR footplate crews before they became passed cleaners on their way up the ranks to fireman and then driver

My copy was given to me by Brian Cox from the DVR when I joined at 13 in 1973 as a cleaner in my school holidays (and any other day I could get away with it ...)

The picture below is from the section that covers lubrication and should be self explanatory

Very useful diagram, thanks for this, I will ensure all my 'Big Ends' are fitted the right way up in future.

I think there should be a referendum on the box. Should it go or should it stay.

Use the BOX as a Ballot  BOX then it has to be opened to find out the result.

Yes I know, I have already left the building. :fie:

Look you'll  missing the point. This is LM so let's set it in context what year are the decorations/mince pies/Brady meant for?. I go with 1936. Anybody else want a gueus?

You can't rush a good job (which is perhaps just as well around LM).
