Markmiller2008
Some more little improvements added over the last week, Running in station signs, railings by the pelican crossing, greasy spoon van and the addition of ground signals to the stabling sidings. Hoping to get some more wiring done over the next few weeks. Mark
Markmiller2008
Test Coach Mars was delivered to me yesterday and was taken for a spin on the front of an 2 EPB. The EPB then departed to go for conversion to a HAP Mark 9
Markmiller2008
A few more 3D printed items have been placed on the layout this week. The barriers replace the hoarding that the original version of the layout had which we wanted to change and I think it looks very good like this. Also continued some work on the greasy spoon van area, which is nearly done although awaiting the taxi office portacabin to be finished. Markmiller2008
Some more 3D printed items put onto the layout this time it’s more railings on the pavements. Also we have been pushing forward on the intention of completing some of the fiddle yard conversion to DCC. With the exception of one point which requires an auto frog two boards were completed and tested and along with the two that have already been done we are getting closer to the layout being fully rewired. There is just Four more boards to rewire and then hopefully in the not too distant future the whole layout will be able to be put up and tested. Markmiller2008
I had a loco and some coaches out today to test the scenic boards after some electrical work to add D connectors for the board joins In other news, our first exhibition looks like it will now be Cradley Heath in October as they’ve been very accommodating for us to attend. Lots to do before then though! Mark
Markmiller2008
Last night myself and Shane completed the fiddle yard wiring, each board works separately so hopefully when we put it all together it will work as expected. We took down the three scenic boards after we had completed the wiring on the last fiddle yard board and then popped three of them up. As you can see from the photo 50036 looks a bit lost on its own there currently. Hopefully we will get to find somewhere to put the layout up and test it in the next few weeks and then it’s full speed ahead for 9th October! Markmiller2008
We are on the home straight towards getting the layout up and having a trial run of the whole layout on DCC. Tonight I’ve worked on a couple of things one electrical and one scenic. First of all, all board joins are on the process of receiving D connectors for power, these will be attached to the boards and will prevent any issues with items being left at home on exhibition days. Secondly the road by the Royal Mail building on the far left board has seen more attention, has been polyfilla’d to try smooth it more than previously. Originally on Northolt it was wet and dry paper however in keeping with the roadways on the rest of the layout I wanted to make them look more uniform. Markmiller2008
One quick update for today. With thanks to Rich Papper for supplying some Roger Smith road markings I was able to get the road by the Royal Mail building re-done. Couple of little bits of pavement to sort but thats another job done! Fingers crossed this weekend should see the layout put up in its full entirety and for me and Shane to think what the hell have we done! Wolf27
One of Marks Hornby 50's was given a more accurate partial repaint with the overly dark blue replaced with the earlier light blue, a thicker white cantrail stripe and black window surrounds at the no1 end.Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr While one of my own 50s, originally a BR blue example purchased from the estate of the late Keith Wright have been given a repaint into original NSE livery as 50017, still work to to on this one before its considered finished. Markmiller2008
Another layout set up weekend this weekend, layout went up on friday and yet again more shorts, we think we’ve cracked them now and ran trains for about an hour through platform 1 and the avoider, some more work was required tho to get platforms 2 and 3 operational. A very successful running session on Saturday evening, our electrical gremlins were ironed out very quickly and apart from a couple of fiddle yard issues and operator error (give us a chance as it’s the first time we’ve run it) We had a good four hours running the layout. Incredibly hard with just two people, at exhibitions we will have another two hopefully. Enjoy the pictures 7

Wolf27
First show completed, voted 3rd best layout in show, which was a nice surprise. A few niggling problems at the start but the layout soon settled down and ran well for the rest of the day. Some improvements to do to increase its resilience before the next show, and further additions to the stock list. Watch this space....... Markmiller2008
Hi All Since Cradley Heath in October, Shane has had the scenic boards for some "Repairs" (less said the better!), Electrical mods and Canopy work. Photos attached. The Canopies are now permanently on the platforms and have lights added too which will be on at all times when the layout is operating. Electrical Mods has seen the D type plugs between the boards replaced with the old Method that Tom used on the layout in its previous incarnation, my way of trying to make things easier actually made it worse. Now for the good news, Southgate Park is booked for two large exhibitions this year, the first being the new Statfold Barn Model Railway Event on April 9/10th and then the one we are very happy with which has been brought forward to 2022 from our 2023 booking is Stafford on September 24/25th. Wolf27
With just over a month to go before the Hornby Statfold model show, a start was made on building the 4 CIG, using old school modelling methods. Mainline mk1’s with MJT brass sides. The motor coach has a VEP underframe but due to the way Hornby designed it, the motor bogie will still be at the wrong end. Otherwise the chassis will be the wrong way round, as in the pic Edited April 8, 2022 by Wolf27 Replace missing pic
Markmiller2008
A quick trip to our local model shop earlier this for supplies and the remaining two buildings for the bridge area were purchased, a few little things to do but essentially now complete. Shameless plug that in just under three weeks time we will be at the new Statfold Barn Model event on the 9th/10th April. Mark 7

Wolf27
Happy to report Southgate Park and its crew survived its first two day show experience in its new (now four years old) guise, at the Statfold Barn Model Event. Some electrical issues late on Saturday, which we could not clear until just before opening time on Sunday, caused us some headaches but overall the weekend went very well. We've seem some very favourable feedback on Twitter and Facebook, and here as well which makes it all worthwhile. Here's to the next one, which is Stafford in September. 1
