RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2019 I was involved in the building of Regent Road - Chris Hewitts model based on Bramley Moor and the LOR switchback - the only place the overhead came to ground. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=53.4263&lon=-3.0017&layers=168&right=BingHyb If we'd have had DCC in those days it would have been fantastic to have multiple pugs shutting back and forth on the coal railway - we had to wire it for conventional controllers and it was "fun" switching the point crossings and this limited the operation a bit - still fun though !

Thanks for your comments and for following this project. Yes, I remember Regent Road well. I have the magazine articles and some video too. The High Level Coal Railway was a great place.

Stephenwolsten
There is still a shortage of good 7mm road vehicles to match the realism of finescale railway modelling.
RMweb Premium Dava Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2019 Did you know MDHB 26 is preserved at the Ribble Steam Railway? Photos here: https://ribblesteam.org.uk/exhibits/steam/avonside-1810-1918-m-d-h-b-no-26/ Similar to the Merseyside Museums loco which is sadly off display. I may have a postcard of this. I'm still interested in the origin & fate of the little Barclay loco.
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2019 No1 is smaller than the other Avonside B3s, 26 is one of these.

The Barclay was Efficient, I think, and it too is at the Ribble Railway.

That must have been Herculaneum Dock's first visit to Southport in 2002, long before the LOR was added to it. I had to squash Brunswick shed a bit to squeeze it into the corner of the layout and it now gives us something of an operating problem as we can't see which locos are in there. We do also have a 7mm kit for this loco. photo by Ian Rathbone who painted this one.
