Don't go cutting it off, I'll pop you an Allen key in the post, cos you'll need to refit the knob when it's modded.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tarp being fire retardent, it'll be rolled up and out of the way. An old cotton hanky (or a bit cut off a shirt) will do. Cut it to size, give it a good pasting of PVA glue and roll it up - the glue helps stop any "fraying".

I'll put some tiny black tie-wraps in with the Allen key :drag:

Great stuff Pinzer. I love what you have done with the Caradoc. Have you a suitable name lined up for her?

I'm wondering whether a DJB engineering safety valve bonnet maybe better suited? Perhaps one for the future? http://www.djbengineering.co.uk/s-valve.shtml

Cheers NM for the words of wisdom from the Guru. ;) Thanks for the great link to valve cover Matthew, i must confess i was'nt happy with its look and shape ;) Will get onto to buying one asap, :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Well my weeks break in N.Wales did'nt go to plan at all  as i had an heart attack on the third day away! I only came home yesterday after spending a week in a Welsh Hospital. I'll post what little i saw as a bit of therepy but my postings may be a bit few and far between over the next month or so. A visit on the Sun morn' to the WHHR to catch the first train was a lucky break as being the only passenger there i was allowed into the cab of Russell,  :sungum: i was then given a one to one tour around the museum :locomotive:

Hope that your recovery is swift and trouble-free Bob. Its not in the same league but I had a similar experience last time I went to Porthmadog as my travelling companion ended up getting his head kicked in :). We ended up sitting in bangor Hospital for three days.

All the best for a speedy recovery Bob - obviously you got much too excited in North Wales! Better stick to South Wales next time.....

Have been missing, and will miss your posts. Do get well and take it easy.

With any luck, I shall soon be posting some pics of the Belle End under construction, for your entertainment and derision.

My goodness.  Sorry to hear that you have been in the wars and that your holiday was truncated - great pictures, by the way - but glad to see that you are not completely laid low, and I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Very sorry to hear of your health problems and wish you a speedy recovery. It cannot be easy for your wife is you were stuck in a Welsh hospital.

Many thanks lads it's really nice to have the support  :friends: Medically wise i had three stents put in to prop up my arteries, i've been sent home with a bag full of tabs' and a big letter or two for my own Doc ' and my local health clinic, I was flown to Glen Clwyd Hosp' by the air ambulance from Porthmadoc....not that i can remember much at all as i was out cold for over half an hour

I did manage to pick up a few bargains at the charity shops whilst away, a Sylvanian family log cabin which can be re-clad and made into a factory/wharehouse, and a cheap '0' gauge plastic train set, of which i can at least use the loco's working bogie chassis and turn it into some kind of funky diesel, the Red tipping tub and maybe the crane wagon can be altered without too much messing about with. :) I'm still taking it easy and lifting nothing heavier than a few pics' using the mouse.  :jester:  i might try and paint something up this week...like the Green loco'  which i'd forgot to say will be named 'McMullen Coal No:9  :locomotive: The plates are on order ;)

More cracking photo's there Pinzer, and trust you to find something suitable in a charity shop. You must be able to smell them out! All you get round here is clothes....

Is that one of the Tesco Caterpilla construction sets? Could always turn it into the Vale of Festiniogg diesel.

Hope your feeling better.

P.S. If you are skiving in bed at the moment, how about a challenge? Fancy bashing up a crane tank?

Cheers Matthew! so that was a Tesco train, cheers for the info' on it, i agree it would make a great Ffesty type diesel chassis, main challenge at the mo' is to open one eye lid at a time and try keep them open :jester: ...i'm on half a dozen new tabs twice a day and they are zonkin' me out, i bought myself two GVT coal wagons the other week and i've managed to put them together over the weekend, i will paint them up this week, i'm just waiting for a mate to turn up later and help me brush off and clean up the track and points then i can possibly try and run something this week. :sungum:

Will keep fingers crossed Pinzer. I don't think anyone will mind you taking a few forty winks after the week you have had!

I assume those GVT wagons are the binnie kits? They are pretty good.

That sounds good. Weather is looking good for this week so it would be a shame to waste it. If I was closer I would pop round and help.

Yes Matthew! Those Binnie kits..they are really easy to put together, so i did my best on the painting last eve' after the daughter gave them a waft over with Grey etch primer for me. I'm actually outside this morn' trying to run my coaches but they are too heavy for the diesels since i put better wheels and lights in some of em, what i need is a bit more power like a steam loco' on the go :jester: I'm trying to fathom out the Caradoc linkages for the new servo' etc. today whilst sat out in the Sun. :sungum:

Excellent! Nice use of child labour there.

Cracking photos, I love the shots of the Bagley-Dewry. Perhaps a little lead weight in the chassis might cure the problem?

If you take some piccies of the linkage perhaps we can be of assistance. Always more than happy to help!

You did help me Matthew  :mail: as i referred back and made notes on the excellent posting you made on fitting remote stuff  After a couple of steam-ups...well its a bloody good excuse :derisive:  i got the linkage bar and the arms adjusted just as i want them, the top link i made myself a few weeks ago from brass sheet which i soldered to the existing knob after removing the original knurled plastic cover, now all runs fine, so the bits were painted up Black and now i can bolt the body back on and order a few add-ons...like that better looking brass valve cover you gave me a link to Matthew....just for starters :)
