Here's the same unit, 1614, in Sep 1983 at Headcorn.

I like the way the long straight between Tonbridge and Ashford has gained a kink (behind the train) to accommodate the loops:

Or to slow down the drivers who used to take liberties with the speed limits before spies in the cab and TPWS came along ;)

455 approaching Twickenham Junction from Strawberry Hill

An ex-Isle of Wight 1927-stock London underground trailer car with its NSE livery almost gone inside Acton Depot museum store; it will be restored to LT red

And "Drain" motor S61 also in the Acton Depot store and repainted in NSE livery though not yet fully restored internally.

Rather than a Hastings unit is that not two tadpoles coupled heads inwards?  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_206

The two centre cars in the Hastings unit are a Buffet car from a 4CIG and a trailer second from a 4Cep.

No, because one of those centre cars is a buffet. Don't think any slim buffets survived the gas axe....

No Buffet cars from the 6B's survived in their original guise, but two former Buffets do - 975025 Caroline (S60755) and 975386 Lab 4 (S60750}.

Hope you don't mind and I may have posted this before but I took this shot from an almost identical position in August 1985.  It's scanned from a 110 format negative which I haven't sorted the colour cast from.

Sorting out a few old prints which I took in the late 1980s, which was a period of transition on the South West Main Line to Bournemouth...

Still in blue and grey, 4 Vep 7827 at Hinton Admiral probably working the hourly  '93' stopping service from Bournemouth.

The new order at Bournemouth with 5 Wes 2415 waiting to depart from platform 2 with an Up service, and a sister unit having arrived at platform 3

4 Rep (as it was at that time before the later reformation to 6 Rep) 1902 stands at platform 2, whilst 33116 stands at platform 1.

As at the time 7827 was one of Fratton's finest, I assume it was somewhere around Pompey that it picked up the 'decoration', rather than the genteel surrounding of Bournemouth.

Indeed. A bit hard for the residents of Bournemouth to get up that high, on their zimmer frames.

"Genteel" and "Bournemouth" don't go together nowadays................

Yes, I had the misfortune to visit my old stamping ground recently.

I only get to visit once or twice year at most now and I know its been on a downward spiral for sometime, but as I said to Mrs 4630 on the way back to West Yorkshire, "I really don't want to visit there again".  All very sad.
