Hopefully the Thameslinks in the sidings are free of graffiti.

Edit.  Not Thameslinks - they are Great Northern Class 717s.

Cheers

Actually saw a pair of SWR's 442's moving yesterday!

Cool, but am I the only obsessive who thought the brickwork of the platform edge (flush, then inset in what is presumably an extension) was more interesting than the EMU ?  Yes, I suppose I probably am - sad, isn't it ? ;-)

If you ever wondered what the 23:43 Portsmouth Harbour to Bognor Regis via Barnham end of the night empties looks like, here you go:

Here's a couple of shots of 442's on shed, with bonus ED! A week to go now until the first few are in service, might pop out to catch one even though I'm surounded by them, be nice to see one moving at more than 10mph!

SWR appears to be having a good crack at getting their diesel units in the new livery, but very few electric units (Class 442 excepted - and they're not in service yet) are in the new colours.

SWR has just two electric units in the new livery namely 444040 and 450111.  The 442s are yet to re-enter service though should start to do so from next weekend's timetable change.

The diesel units are steadily being repainted but with a great many differences between them.  To be fair Stagecoach ended up with at least four variations of livery on those same diesel units namely standard with the stripes in one or other of two slightly different positions, then the "jagged edges" or "flame" effect version and finally a paler interpretation of the standard scheme with new shades.

Currently among the repainted 158/159 units we have:-

1. fully vinylled with grey stripes across both pale and dark areas; first class cantrail line in white; no door-edge markings; skirt band in white

2. fully vinylled with grey stripes across both pale and dark areas; first class cantrail line in white; no door-edge markings; skirt band in yellow

3. fully vinylled with grey stripes across both pale and dark areas; first class cantrail line in yellow; no door-edge markings; skirt band in yellow

4. fully vinylled with grey stripes across both pale and dark areas; first class cantrail line in yellow; first class door edged in yellow; disabled access door edged in sky blue; skirt band in yellow

5.  dark areas vinylled with stripes but pale areas plain paint; first class cantrail line in yellow; no door markings; skirt band in yellow

6. fully painted in two shades of plain grey; first class cantrail line in yellow; no door-edge markings; skirt band in yellow

7. fully painted in two shades of plain grey; first class cantrail line in yellow; first class door edged in yellow; disabled access doorway edged in sky blue; skirt band in yellow

As if that wasn't enough the shades of light and dark grey differ between paint and vinyl, there are different shades of the bluish-grey used for stripes across the vinyl and there are different shades of dark base-colour vinyl with some being described as charcoal and others as steel blue.

All that and only around 20 units are so far re-liveried.

The 455, 456, 458 and 707 fleets are not expected to receive a new livery being due for early retirement / redeployment when class 701 arrives from early 2020.  The class 444 and 450 units are due to receive two-tone grey eventually but are first going through a re-seating program with some reconfiguring inside to squeeze a few more standard class seats in at the expense of a few first class ones; the 450s are having their first class area moved from amidships to the outer ends.  Many 450s and some 444s now sport very dark blue seats, approximately matching the darker paint livery colour,  which appear black through the windows.

This is not confirmed, but it's hoped that the 444's/450's will go to Bournemouth for repainting once the 442's are all in service. There's not enough pit space at the moment to have 442's being worked on and Desiros split apart for painting.

Anyway, here's some more mundane units!

On the same day, 377411 heads the all stations to Bognor section of the train, just south of Pulborough. 377432 would have formed part of this train as far as Horsham, where it was detached and ran fast to Barnham, before making up a semi-fast along the south coast.
