rapidobill
It somewhat bemuses me that there is an interest.....already.......in potential errors.I wonder why this relish for denigration rather than celebration....? The way of our world,I suppose...... Hey, we were 24 posts into the thread, so not doing too bad... ;>) First of all, thanks for the positive comments on the model. Rapido are looking forward to this new partnership and the opportunity to produce this model for Rails. I have read - many times - the thread on the LNER forum regarding the D-car (sorry, getting lazy about typing it out...) liveries. We have also spent a fair amount of time with the NRM curators on this subject, with more discussions to follow. These have confirmed many correct details from those LNER Forum posts, and a few that may not be correct. Let's leave it for now at the idea that we will be following - as Rails have stated - the lettering appearance as the car was in both 1938 and 1948 based on photos and verified by the NRM staff and others. We are not representing that our model will exactly match the lettering of the car as preserved today. The lettering on my mock-ups as used by Rails is done from in-service photos of the car, done in a rush for the release packet, based on the best available information at the time, subject to change, your results may vary... :>) Bill Edited April 13, 2017 by rapidobill
G-BOAF
Aside from lettering original vs preservation, are there any detail differences between the vehicle now and as it was in 1938?
JaymzHatstand
Was dubious at first, but on discussion with the boss, she said 'you'd best get one then' or at least that's what I heard! Looking forward to my P2 being on test with it, and I really should get a Mallard to go with it, and my Coronation set! Cheers J

At this point in development it would cost no more to get things right than get them wrong.

And I'm quite sure that Rapido/NRM are more than capable of sorting that.
County of Yorkshire
Excellent news! Also, the first RTR coach to 21st century standards with a clerestory? My 1947 GWR secondary mainline will have no use for one, but... CoY Edited April 13, 2017 by County of Yorkshire
stewartingram
Next question is, what about post 1948? What other livery variations are possible (and I'm not expecting news of later models!). I'm wondering about its later history and what could be justified on layouts. Stewart

That gives 2 possible livery variations for a follow up batch.
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 Does it come with pencil stencil and rolling paper inside the coach ? Very nice, but expensive but given the uniqueness I'd be up for 1.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 Looks good and very interesting but I'm a bit surprised this one has escaped from the 'NRM in Miniature' range - no doubt Rails have permission, especially as Rapido Bill has been working with the NRM on details, but I wonder if a royalty is being paid to the NRM as part of the overall package? Anyway now that Bill has got his design effort round this one it should be an easy move for him to (G)W 139 - the whitewash coach, I'd definitely be in for that one. (However an NER version of this one along with NER 1621 to haul it would be a no brainer for me, Locomotion please note).

RMweb Gold ruggedpeak Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 I never expected to see this announced. But does it actually work and measure the performance of our model locos? That's why its £125, it has bluetooth connection to an app on your phone giving real time performance data. The electronics just fit into the enclosed area so won't be visible. Looks like this will be a fantastic model.

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 (edited) Can anyone link to BR period pictures please, and what DE9****** did it become? Clearwater
For those of us who ponder these things, it would be interesting to know how many preorders at £50 a pop they get and the extent that derisks the development costs up to the point of production. My sense from the enthusiasm here is that this is selling well David

bertiedog
Looks very nice indeed, especially the wood interior with the model as well....... . A good addition to any collection, and as long as the detailing is good, the price is very fair for such a specialist coach. Is the trade moving generally towards deposits, I was surprised on return to the hobby after long illness to find so many that simply took pre-orders without a deposit, however taking a deposit really should mean firmer delivery dates. One on order after Easter. Stephen
