Popular Post coachmann
Knocked up the road bridge for Carrog station today. The brick arch was made first and the stonework built around it. For such a simple structure, it took several hours. The curves at each end were done by heating up the styrene on the gas stove and pressing it around a jam jar. This takes care.... The bridge is 56' wide across the straight part of the parapet. The diameter of the top of the wall is 32" on the model... Four courses of upright bricks form the arch. This type of construction appears on many of the Llangollen line bridges... The road is 18' 6" wide. The pavement on the Corwen wide is 2' wide and on the Station side, 4' wide. I haven't made mine this wide becasue there simply isn't the space. In fact some mods are required in the morning seeing as it currently sits on the platform! Edited July 14, 2017 by coachmann
tender
A much neater switch diagram by my good friend PGH arrived by email this morning. I made a wee alteration to include the catch point before printing it to the required size on photo-glossy paper. Thanks Phil.... gismorail
Thanks for being kind enough ot provide a link, but I am afraid it is too late for me now. I just don't fancy undoing the old point switch diagram. Thanks Gismo, but railway modelling to me is also tackling the "necessary evils"... Ask PGH of this forum; He gets an ear full of my grumbling down the phone especially when he mentions the non-existent Down platform, which i don't want to think about at the moment. Fortunately, one necessary evil I can farm out is the installation of sound decoders..... The down platform does have it's challenges in the form of the building I would grant you that Larry but compared to the station building that you have modelled to a very high standard I think it will be a 'breeze' .... just wandering as to whether the Bachmann suburban station building could be adapted.... I have one for Chumley End and will have a look at it next time I'm in the shed.
muddys-blues
The road over bridge looks great Larry, it's all coming together very nicely now .......... anyway about this down platform Best regards Craig.
muddys-blues
Will you be cutting your Nipples off Larry? I mean the ends of the Tie Bar that stick up! Most People pierce them now Andy it's all the rage .....

I have one for Chumley End and will have a look at it next time I'm in the shed. I foresee few difficulties with the down platform but I wanted to put the bridge then everything behind the station that links with it. Working from the back towards the front of the baseboard is safer with my elbows! I did look at Oxfords projected GWR buildings, but I should be able to knock the one at Carrog up easily enough. I'm not for providing social housing for creepy crawlers so I filled in the air gap behind the road bridge with solid wood.... A view taken tonight of the painted bridge...
Jintyman
Excellent progress Coachman, as mentioned before the main station building is superb. Now as for the other platform's building, maybe the original Dapol (Airfix) CO14 Booking Hall kit would make a good starting point for it? Obviously some adjustments need to be made, but about the correct size if my perception is not mistaken. Popular Post coachmann
A test shot to see how things hang together. The colouring of the bridge is not yet complete as the brick arch is plain red at the moment. It will be finished tomorrow and the whole structure matt varnished ...
Popular Post coachmann
The bridge was finished this morning. Except for the final year or so under BR, the bridge was discolored by exhaust smoke over both tracks.... Wills Course Stone sheets barely resemble the random flat-face stonework of the real bridge, but it was used for convenience. I also coloured it to match the station buildings rather than the grey stone used on the bridge and end-loading dock...
andyram
That bridge really does look the part. You just need to add in the various warning signs.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted July 16, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2017 How you manage to stick Wills sheets together without a visible join just amazes me. I guess it's plenty of solvent?
PGH
Fortunately, one necessary evil I can farm out is the installation of sound decoders..... So down at the "farm" something "evil" (but necessary !) is happening - fitting a Hornby Grange for DCC sound. The instructions were to fit it with a large bass reflex speaker in the tender rather than the small circular speaker its designed to take. This meant removing as much as possible inside the tender including one of the two posts which fix the body to the chassis. Underside view of the tender body as amended - all the coal space below the top plate was removed and the top plate cut back. The top of the tender chassis was cleared down to footplate level. The completed installation - the Zimo MX645 decoder was sited as far back as possible so the two capacitors would be under the highest part of the coal load. All items were located on double sided self adhesive foam pads. No doubt a video of the loco in action at Carrog will appear here before too long (or should I hang on to it until he completes that down platform )
muddys-blues
Larry if you are going to use the Dapol booking hall don't buy one I have one doing nothing. I can drop it in at Jinty's to make sure it gets to you Best regards Craig
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2017 Here's five minutes of a moment in time back in the 1950's, but don't ask me why the Western Region was using a 4F on the local goods. It had let them down anyway just after passing Corwen and was under the feet of the Up local passenger, so control decided to put it inside at Carrog. The distant whistle of the 64XX can just be heard as the driver impatiently waits for the home signal to clear. Then a bee decides to investigate! An Oxford Dean Goods will replace the 4F in due course.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr42Pg6oJbU&feature=youtu.be PS: For those who don't like DCC, turn the sound off and pretend you can hear electric motors.... coachmann
Nothing to shout home about today, but at least a barrow crossing has been added.
