bgman
The trees certainly set it off well now, and the small amount of details look well placed, crackin' stuff matey ! G
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 5, 2020 I should mention, because I forgot in my earlier post, that the trees were originally very kind and unsolicited gifts from John Farmer (Re6/6). John is one of the best tree makers around, having followed the methods employed by Gordon Gravett. Because we weren't sure at the time of the required depth for these half-relief trees, I have since trimmed most of the armatures and removed some of the original foliage and also applied new foliage of a slightly darker hue over the top, in order to better match the existing colours on the layout. This afternoon I started making some patches of thorns and scrub, from teased out postiche (theatrical hair packaged up for modellers), sprayed with hair spray and different colours of foliage sprinkled on, and then all sealed up with a further spray from the hair product. 6 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted January 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Been fitting the fascia to the layout. The fascia is a superb bit of precision laser cutting by Tim Horn, to whom I am very grateful: 20
RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted February 8, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 8, 2020 Having fitted the fascia properly a couple of weeks ago, I've now got round to fitting the lighting. This consists of a single strip of 12v LEDs, mounted along the length of a layout an a piece of batten glued to the inside of the top of the fascia at about 45 degrees. The LEDs are variable temperature, meaning I can switch it from a cold white to a very warm white, or somewhere in between. I can also vary the brightness. I rather like the colder white light in these test views, which seem to be somehow appropriate for an overcast day on the Welsh borders: 18
Tim V
Gosh Captain, that has come together well - rather reminiscent of Presteigne. 1
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted February 9, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2020 Having finalised the wiring for the layout lighting, the fascia was properly re-attached this afternoon and the control panel put on:
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted February 9, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2020 With the track having had a clean, a bit more testing was done. 7795 is one of the regular pannier tanks on the goods services from Leominster: In the mid-1960s, British Railways trialled a D95XX 0-6-0 on the branch and tested clearances etc.:

RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted February 10, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 10, 2020 How do I justify the appearance of industrial and light railway locos in a B.R. goods yard? Well, apart from 'Rule 1', the Vale of Radnor Light Railway (a member of the Association of Independent Light Railways) is given running powers from the junction at Capel Bethesda, into the goods yard, for the exchange of traffic between the light railway and the B.R. system. Normally based in Somerset on the South Polden Light Railway (another member of the Association), this small Black Hawthorn 0-4-0ST was loaned to the VoRLR for a few weeks to cover an unexpected shortage of motive power and is seen here in the B.R. yard at Bethesda Sidings: 19

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted February 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2020 I, on the other hand, am plotting to tinker with the dear little Pecketts with a view to providing a more lived in look. Rob. 1
