Painting Hornby plastic wheels

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of resin models that are sitting on the standard Hornby 0-6-0 chassis. This is the modern chassis with suspension on the rear axle. I would like to give the wheels a bit of paint - they should be grey and slightly weathered - but they are made of some kind of plastic with metal rims.

I think the plastic may be ABS or nylon, the sort of plastic that does not take paint well and may peel. Does anyone have experience of painting these type of wheels?

Don't worry - people have been painting these wheels for years. The paint is much more likely to chip off the steel rim than it is to react with or fail to stick to the plastic centre.
