Roundhouse,

Thanks for the pics, very nice. I love the snow scene.

Cheers.

That particular time there was snow on all of the rails including the running line ones with a failed 377 just South of the station. We hung around for over an hour till the station staff told everyone to go home.

Paul.

These are from the early 80s and give an idea of the track plan and yard lights then.

Dave,

Thanks a lot again. Very helpful. I do intend to have removable later cantilevers and other lampposts so the 1980s at least could be modelled.

Cheers.

The track layout at the south end of the station is unchanged to this day even though it is now controlled from Three Bridges. When the Redhill lines were resignalled in the mid 1980s virtually nothing was changed apart from an extra or altered crossover so as to allow direct entry to the postal dock.

In fact the platform 0 works are the first significant layout changes since the the early 1900s (nothing much changed during electrification in the 1930s either) .

Dave,

Thanks again, very nice. I like the short ferry trains, Chipman train, and the Ballast cleaner ex LMS coach which I modelled years ago but have never run. All very helpful.

Cheers.

Oh wow didn't think you would still have them. Not looking bad for about 30 years old?

Carl,

Buildings are at least 31 years old. I have all the buildings and most scenic items that were removed when it was sold. I also have one end board to use on a future small layout.

Cheers.

Paul, I agree with Carl, those buildings look great, craftsmanship at its finest - I wish I looked that good for 30 odd years old.  Just think, I was one when you built them - Just saying like...........

Oh dear, I can hear the cries of "Ageism" being bandied about again already. :blum:

Cheers, Andy.

I was only 7 Andy. Wow. Surly Mr Wade was only in secondary school when he built these :-)

I will be happy when you 2 are paying for my state pension, I will think of you then a lot! I will also struggle through the next 12 plus years of my early retirement till then.

Cheers.

I have spent many days wiring up the layout, building the control panel and then testing the layout. I had to spend another day sorting various mistakes I made, but all now is working correctly.

The control panel is shown below.

post-1373-0-69682300-1499113336_thumb.jpg

This is the best presented panel I have done but I got the track plan wrong and only noticed when wiring the last three points to the studs. That wasted a day putting it right. Tested signals today but can't fit them until detailed to suit the prototypes..

Next will be buffer stops.

Cheers.

That looks really good Paul

I think we should scrap the layout challenge and call it the control panel challenge instead. Yours and Andrews would be out in front.

Keep up the good work not long to go now.

Steve.

I have made the buffer stops, the one in siding 3 is temp from the Snowplough siding as the one required will have to be scratch build. Siding 2 has a concrete section stop, I made 2 of these for my TWY layout.

Not sure I will paint these, likely just pinned in place for now. Still hope to detail and add the 2 ground signals if I can.

Cheers.

Our local council uses concrete blocks like that in gateways to stop the travelers from getting into fields, parks, waste land etc. I know some of the Lyddrail attendees visit in a camper van but I believe they are not travelers. :nono: :nono:

I have just about recovered and put everything away from my Lydd Rail open weekend.

The layout was operated by many guests and I got much positive feedback. Later in the year I will return to this layout and progress with the scenery as it got an invite to a show next year.

Below are pictures of the layout challenge entries which had a great response.

Winning entry Farmers Drove N by Steve Farmer.

The layout is being made ready for a visit to Wrecrail on 30th June.

I am working on the signals which will be fitted once painted. Photo of modifying Absolute Aspect Models ground signals and once detailed to prototype versions.

The signals come with extended hoods that need to be shortened. Made the stencil indicators from microstrip & plastic card.

Hope to make buildings and bridge plate top and adjacent wall for the show. Layout is very much a work in process.

Cheers.

I am pleased with progress so far, should have items on layout almost completed, likely short of a few details to the buildings.

Shown in the pics, bridge plate top & wall, Reigate Feeder Hut, Up Yard Store Room, rusted vault and salt bins.

Cheers.
