RMweb Premium 47137 Posted June 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2017 I am saddened to report the passing of David Armitage, who was one of the founders of the British 1:87 Scale Society. David’s enthusiasm for British 1:87 was both boundless and infectious. His scratch-building skills were of the highest order and he was an inspiration to many modellers - especially the readers of the much-missed ‘Scale Model Trains’. Certainly, his articles were among the highlights in the magazine and each new one was eagerly awaited. He certainly got more than a few modellers hooked on the idea of British H0, and for that they will be forever grateful to him, as it has brought them a lot of joy. In his own models, the ingenuity that David showed in using parts and materials intended for other applications was remarkable. His Southern Railway Q1 class locomotive was to be marvelled, and his other models including one of the E5000 ‘Golden Arrow’ electric loco were very good indeed. David had a pivotal role in arranging the initial meeting of seven H0 modellers which resulted in the setting-up of the British 1:87 Scale Society, and we can reasonably say that without David there would be no British 1:87 Scale Society. May he rest in peace. Phil Burkett Andy Emerson Richard Gawler (“47137”) - Richard.
