Loving the look of this layout, very inspirational indeed. They say plagiarism is the highest form of compliment, although I’m not sure I can match your modelling skills I’m definitely inspired to have a go!

I’ve been wondering how to achieve some depth on what is essentially a flat backscene, what you have done here works really well. And who doesn’t like a grubby mill?

“Plagiarism“ that is a posh word for copying I think.
But we are all copying the real thing really, the most difficult part is compressing it into what space we have available. I usually see something that will fit the space when out and about.
Definitely have a go at scratch building, thanks for looking.

The new building makes a big difference to the photos, it was definitely needed to fill in the background.  Awesome

Simon

Definitely agree, the sky line looked like something was missing

Definitely much better with the new building.

Something is happening on the high street in Drabford.
Im not happy with how that sharp curve is, and how the bus looks like it’s going nowhere into the backscene .

So time for a change, but unfortunately those flats have been removed for the new high street plan.

Work begins with removing a section of wall to make more space.

I've always really liked this layout, and I can only add to the other comments.

Really like what you have managed to fit into the area you have to work with. You have got the amount of track, scenic and operational interest 'ratio' just right in my opinion. The warehouse really completes the backscene well.

Thanks for sharing,

regards,

James

Thank you for the comments. The warehouse building has been on the go for some time with swapping and changing ideas until finally getting it to look right in the limited space.
Next is the high street alterations, I’m hoping the street will look like it is leading somewhere instead of just ending at the sky on the backscene.

Thanks for looking

 Shaun.

A little more work in progress to Drabford high street.
A new curved section of wall has been added and new footpaths to the new road layout.

Capping from the old wall has been reused and a small slope area at the side of the flats added.

It’s supposed to look like the road is going off behind the flats, where as before it was a sharp turn into the sky backscene.

Footpaths painted and road markings added. Wall painted to match and a little greenery added to the side of the flats.

I have been tree making using a dried plant “Sedum” from my garden. A few branches held together with masking tape, then painted with Emulsions, I use the tester pots.

Foliage is made from teased out hanging basket liner glued on with cheap hair spray and scatter sprinkled on.

They not perfect but they are cheap and easy to make and look ok when on the layout.

A new wall added beside the pub, this will also have trees behind soon.

The bus will hide the baseboard joint across the road.36A1761C-9A60-4FD6-B245-A63157C6E98E.jpeg.f0a9b07ce82c6a623794e0e86bb4051b.jpeg

White lines finish off the road.

I will also be adding some street lamps soon.

This Bus Shelter kit was given to me a while ago for use on Drabford, and now the road is finished I can finally get round to assembling it.
Credit goes to Kim Durose for designing the laser cut kit and I would like to thank him for this.

So before I get the glue and paints out, here it is in position on Drabford High Street . As you can see I have a South Yorkshire Transport bus, and I have been informed that the SYT bus shelters was dark blue for the period late 70s, early 80s.  Any bus spotters with a picture would be interesting to see a real example thanks

Shaun .

That looks like the sort of shelter a lot of stations ended up with. Any idea if it's still available? I can't find it through a search...

I’m not sure the kit is available to buy yet. I was lucky to be given this one. I’m sure this would be a good seller as like you mentioned lots of stations ended up with these.

I built one many years ago for the B&DMRS Brigenshaw many years ago. The L&YR canopy was on the other platform, so having the small shelter on the public side ensured the more impressive structure was easily seen. It was mostly made from clear styrene, the framework scored and painted. I've still got it in a tin of scenic items.

Hi Shaun

Hope you’re well. Layout is looking great! Seems we are both up to our eyes in retaining walls currently!

Thanks for the mention. I only made three bus shelters. You have one, Mr Pearson has the other for Welby Lane, and I have the other one for Atherstone Court. I have cancelled plans to release it as a kit. Someone somewhere will make one some day I’m sure. I may do a short run / one offs if people want one but no plans currently to “put it out there”.

Hi Kim , I think the bus shelter kits would be a popular seller.  Thanks again for my freebie .
