Adding the backscene.

I wanted to create a street scene above the fiddle yard. So I have split the panel to give more access to the fiddle yard and to create an area on scene for low relief buildings to fix to.

The centre board needed access for the loco lift when running loco hauled trains.

The control panel has been raised and the electric pencil method for point operation has been upgraded to push buttons.

The front of the panel will be disguised as flats, I am currently working on the flats and will post pictures soon.

Backscene nearly complete.

A few pictures from a running session after painting the backscenes white undercoat.

Looking good Shaun, good luck with the first show. I love the magazine bundle idea so will try a couple of those.

Thanks,

Its only just over four weeks to the show.

Good luck with the magazine/ newspaper bundles.

I'm going to make some more soon.

I have started making the flats to cover the control panel, using Slaters embossed brick sheet, glued onto 30 thou plasticard.

Very time consuming cutting out those windows.

Curtains added.

Chimney stacks and roof tiles are next to be added.

I wanted to be able to operate Drabford from either side, so I have hinged the control panel.

For behind the layout operation, the panel is down and the flats roof would be in place hiding the panel on the scenic side.

And to operate from the front, the flats roof will be lifted off, and the panel up.

I am always trying to think of ways to satisfy operation from both sides. I also prefer the control panel option for points rather than everything from the controller.

That is simple but so effective.

Good luck with the exhibiting.

Regards,

James

Thanks James

Operation from the front still is not as good as standing behind the layout because turning locos round is not possible, but its still good for running DMU's etc.

Liking And Complementing !!!

Outstanding modelling indeed.

This layout is so well detailed, and it's not even finished yet !!!

Can I please ask you, how did you make the curtains for your flats ?

Thank you.

Hi Paul,

"Leaflets And Catalogues"

For the top windows I have cut out the shower curtains from the Argos catalogue,  I think they look like 80s style curtains.

I sometimes photograph actual cotton fabrics and reduce to scale in Photoshop. If you have a scanner you could also copy photos of fabric designs from specialist books on period interiors.

I hope that was an OLD Argos catalogue you chopped up...

Yes its last years, but I am going to need another catalogue as I need more curtains...

Hi to all,

Been working on a new set of low relief three storey flats this weekend.

Based loosely on some flats in the Sheffield area.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been very busy getting Drabford ready for the Neepsend show this weekend.

I have done the greenery using hanging basket liner with woodland scenics added.

post-31974-0-51246600-1524853393_thumb.jpg

Also made a sign ready for the show.

post-31974-0-72535300-1524853278_thumb.jpg

And a new addition to the stock is a 108 DMU.
