Modern image 6ft x 20 inch depot kinda layout :)

No name or specific theme but will be mostly DRS purely because I like the livery, may well also feature some Colas stuff based on the same criteria ;)

Roughly 6ft x 20 inches, tradk is pretty much Peco set track with the exception of the points on the main board which are Streamline, set track points used in the fiddle yard purely to save space.

Points are operated by Peco PL10 point motors.

Will put a picture of the wiring up under the board when the ballast has dried so I can turn it over, tried to keep it as neat as possible underneath.

Control is DCC by use of a NCE Powercab, sound will feature over time but I want to buy a few locos first and then will put sound in them eventually.

Also made a 12v DC power bus out of copper tape that all the lights will eventually solder onto.

Not much to update with :)

Dismantled my previous layout and recycled some of the buildings to this one,the fuelling point as well as the industrial unit.

Added a couple more bits of clutter as well as a row of gritting bins along the fence.

The ground signal will work and will be switched in conjunction with the point, maybe not to "prototype" but I don't care ;)

  • 2 years later...

Well it is surprising what a few weeks of quarantine does :)

Dusted this off after a few years of it standing in a corner, had always planned to finish it one day and this was as good a time as any.

Made a few changes although you cant really tell as the "old" pictures don't show anymore, but the large flat area is now going to have a bit of a town on it, before it was just the storage sidings hidden behind the retaining wall.

I have also bulked out the top area with another building, skips, figures and a few more bits and bobs.

The retaining wall looks a bit rough at the bottom as it had been stuck down once and scenic stuff applied to the base, pulling it off took off a bit of the finish but can cover it over again.

The ground signal does actually work and will eventually switch red/green with the point it is next to when I can find anywhere that has a Peco PL-13 point mounted switch thingy which seem to be non-existent at the moment.

Few buildings turned up today, still waiting on the pavement sections so at the moment they are just plonked on the edge of the road, maybe get one more to take me to the closer to the end. Road was just a bit of cardboard will some grey emulsion and graphite that I scraped off a pencil to break up the solid look. The little rectangles by the road are to lift what will the back edge of the pavement so it doesn't slope backwards away from the road.

Been messing with the building I got yesterday, been blacking out the back of them to make them less transparent for some lighting, painted them grey to begin with as it is all I had.

Also divided up the rear to stop light spilling into areas I didn't want it to go, only a few bits of card glued into place, most at the bottom to stop it spilling down into the frontages.

Blocked one window completely on the middle one to simulate no light on in there and sub divided another building so I can only have 1 or 2 of the windows lit.

On the middle one I have also lined it with foil to block the light and I will do it with the other two eventually.20200428_191122.jpg.d51c4aa783804256dcc182d61eb57460.jpg

Only the light on my phone which is way brighter than the LEDs I have ordered but gives an idea.

Put a small layer of filler over the area to give it a bit of texture ready for when it will eventually have some greenery on it.

Cheated a bit and stuck a few bushes on already though :)

Toned the paving down a bit as well.

Made a bit of progress today, cut a new piece for the back, had to try and match the paint colour to the existing board and it isn't too bad, you can see a difference but not much else I could do as the old colour has been discontinued now.

Put a base coat of green on the scenic area ready for some grass that should come next week, buildings stuck down and now just awaiting the lights.

There is holes in the board they are mounted to to feed the lights through.20200502_194406.jpg.5e91ae33c5e07e0915c6563d9c62bad7.jpg

Okay, enough for today, need to let everything dry now.

Did a few more big clumps of foliage and planted the one tree I had left over from a previous layout.

Placed the cars on as well, BMW is parked properly but the Discovery is parked wonky on the path :D

Trying to progress this towards somewhat of a finish as it has dragged on for about 3 years as it is.

Used the spare portacabin from my other layout and plopped it down here without a great deal of thought behind it :D

Had to redo the ballasting around the track as this area was just hard standing before.

See how little ballasting is left now.

Used a few walkway sections around the fuelling point, will probably add a few more in random places.

Decided to open the one end of the board up again, wasn't that happy with the retaining wall that was there as there was no way for anyone to get into the depot :)

Still a work in progress and a bit of paint touch up needed in a couple of places.

Doing a few more bits and pieces to keep it moving forward while I am off for 2 days.

Been trying to get a decent transition from scenic to storage, not too bad.

Added a few walkway sections I had left round the portacabin/sidings area.

Slightly decluttered this area in the foreground, also added some greenery along the bottom of the retaining wall that runs virtually the whole length of the board.

No big revelations, just made a new piece to go on the end of the board to cover over the various bits of wood :)

Bought a small table saw yesterday so more confident in cutting wood straight now so may well be making a few other bits and pieces over time.

Started to paint the edges black as well, may cut hardboard to cover this but at the moment it is just the polystyrene used to make the banks that has been painted.

The gap is where the DCC panel used to be before I moved it to the back.

On a side note I ordered a Dapol class 68 this morning, the plain blue DRS version with sound, I wanted the compass version really but will buy a different body at some point and swap them over.

I would definitely cover that polystyrene edge. It looks okay now, but it will be vulnerable and one little knock will expose bits of white.

Yeee, I know.

There are a few little voids in it already.
