86902
After looking at the stunning layouts on here I thought I would show what I've been up to the last couple of years. Sandiacre is a 4mm DCC layout, baseboards from my good mate Tim Horn, the boards are laser cut with some custom modifications. It is loosely based on the Sandiacre site near Toton. It shares some resemblance but has some adjustments to fit the space! The main scenic board is 5 foot long by 10 inches wide, this fits into my van nicely and has it's own space in the workshop for running. The fiddle yards are approx 2 foot long each end. Power comes from a Lenz 100 system, track work is 00 gauge C&L, tortoise point motors running through a lenz LS150. The layout was designed to operate and show different stock, mostly departmental, and be operated from the front in my workshop. A few pics to show the space Thanks for looking in Bob

MattBlack33
Looks good so far, Bob! I really do like those Tim Horn modules. I've been pricing up a set myself. Looking forward to seeing more from your layout as it progresses.
86902
So I opted for some more board modifications to fit the Lenz module into, also the Scottie dog plaque worn by one of the Balfour Beatty class 20s. Sandiacre nameplate fitted onto the board, and the boards received a few coats of satin black. Lenz faceplates are fitted to both fiddle yards for ease of use. The left hand fiddle yard entrance is hidden by the maintenance shed, this enables me to run stock into the shed and off scene. I have also fitted LED colour changing lighting, just over £50 from B&Q with remote control which gives different colour variations and brightness. The back scene was from ID back scenes.
Mark Saunders
Even better the Hornby Sentinel comes in BB livery to go with the layout! Mark Saunders

86902
The track work was undertaken over a few weeks with C&L components. It's a long task but enjoyable, it gives the gentle flow I wanted in the yard.
Mark Saunders
There were two Dogfish and Two Walrus that BB had painted in Blue and White House colours which appeared from time time on tracklaying contracts but the lat time I saw the Walrus was during the rebuilding of Leeds station about 15 years ago working with a Wabtec black 08! A rotten livery for photography as the white was eithe under or over exposed! Mark Saunders
86902
Thanks Mark I have plenty of blue and white projects in the pipeline. Cheers Bob

Jeremy Davison
Looking forward to seeing this in the flesh at some stage. Looks great. Cheers Jeremy
86902
Thanks Jeremy. Once the track was tested and the tortoise motors were wired in, I could concentrate on the hard standing area. A lot of sandiacre yard is filled in so I wanted to replicate some of that. Plasticard sheet was cut to size, Scalescenes concrete and tarmac papers were glued down and slowly bought to life with a bit of weathering. The bollards were an eBay find, and I had to have these to get the look of the real yard
Ragtag
Looking good - how did you go about marking and cutting the plasticard to fill between the rails if I might ask? Those look like they might be the scalemodelscenery.co.uk barriers. If so, how have you found them? I was unsure about the finish with them being 3D printed, but they work out considerably cheaper than the resin ones from Kingfisher Miniatures. 86902
Hi Rob No I had these before Justin did those barriers. They were on eBay. I just spent a long time trimming and checking against the rail with the plasticard, it wasn't quick by any means! Cheers Bob
86902
The office block is one of the dominant features of the yard, but as layout space is limited I decided to make it half relief out of row mark and plasticard. A quick word with my laser cutting buddy and the basic shape with window frames came together. I have to build the ramp to the double doors and add fire exit signs.

86902
No vans were available in Balfour livery so I purchased some plain white oxford vans, painted the blue stripes and added Balfour decals I purchased from eBay years ago. I also have some crane kits built up ready to go into Balfour blue and white.
86902
The layout was invited to the little layouts show in 2016, so a mad rush was in to get it working as a work in progress layout! My good lady made the drapes, I finished the tortoise point motors using exactoscale bases. A bit of the scenic work was carried out and off to the show it went. Had some good comments and the layout seemed to go down well
