ANNESLEY WOODHOUSE

JULY 2014 - PLANNING BEGAN

After moving house, losing a garage but gaining a spare room, I wanted to build something smaller to exhibit.  Inspiration came after seeing Pete Harveys "Peter's Street" at a show and a plan was drawn up...

748494444_001-originalplan.png.c175f7a63a815d3722fa1a61e73a6411.png

I had some boards already built that i had stripped the track off.  They were 4ft 11in x 1ft 3.5in each (9ft 10in total) and fit the spare room perfectly, so track laying began (after covering the old holes with tape)

The fiddleyard area

and the Station area

1212734760_003-station.jpg.88e2edea31cd04d1570967655d52db03.jpg

While this looked OK, it was too similar to the original "Peter's Street" track plan so i decided to change the viewing side, resulting in this plan with features inspired by Mansfield Woodhouse station...

INSPIRATION

This picture shows the block paved platform (including the Robin Hood Line logo) and the old goods shed which had been converted into a waiting shelter

134181063_MansfieldWoodhouse(101).JPG.a19f4ed2ec42a1b0a6c5d585a579734f.JPG

I used 15mm MDF for the platforms and glued Peco 'concrete' platform edging onto it giving a solid surface to work on the block paving.  This was carved into plastic sheet using a scalpel and was soooooo tedious

The view down the completed platforms...

010.jpg.86cfc8bf0901028cb8a8bdba333d7331.jpg

After the platform tops were finished I worked out the position for the footbridge

and the (ex-goods shed) shelter

with the cable trunking fitted and positions sorted for the waiting shelter and the road bridge, it was time to start my least favourite task, ballasting!

These ground signals are ones I've had a while from Roger Murray.  The other three signals I need are on order from Absolute Aspects (who have taken over from Roger Murray)

NOVEMBER 2016

After the arrival of the Absolute Aspects signals, they were tested and installed on the layout (and work perfectly)

Time was taken to wire up the two aspects, feathers etc to the switches on the control panel via the switches on the Seep point motors.  This is so that if the route is set, the signal will display the correct feather (or lack of) for the route.

The result of this is that all an operator has to do is set all the points on the route and then switch the signal to green and the signal will light correctly for the route.

more work was done on the road bridge

and then i started to do more to the bank at the rear of the layout

Hanging basket liner was glued down to it using neat PVA.  I would like to thank Shaun (Scooby71) for suggesting that I try using the hanging basket liner as I haven't used it before.

DECEMBER 2016 - TESTING TIMES AHEAD

Meanwhile, in the sidings, 66022 has arrived with the RHTT and is stabled in the sidings with classmates 66077 and 66135.  The RAC man is still struggling to get the bonnet of the Corsa open!

FEBRUARY 2016

A while ago I bought some figures from Langley Models and I have finally got around to fitting them on the layout before it's first Exhibition at the end of the month.  They are 'Granny Smith'...

LITTER BINS

How to make the Robin Hood Line litter bins.  Simple and cheap... I used straws (from a well known fast food establishment) and some wire

post-31973-0-94974900-1499212487_thumb.jpg

post-31973-0-23083800-1499212531_thumb.jpg

They were made ages ago for a Robin Hood Line project that got abandoned hence the use of the old RHL colours

post-31973-0-21459200-1499212573_thumb.jpg

To use the bins on Annesley Woodhouse I simply painted them into the new Robin Hood Line colours

post-31973-0-56379100-1499213588_thumb.jpg

I used GBRf blue and orange, I already had these colours and they're near not far off.  Here's the bin in the picture from the last post

TRACK WEATHERING

The track needed weathering, I don't have an airbrush but I know a man boy who does.  Matt (Heinz57), who weathered the track on London Road, came over and weathered the track and it looks spot on!

060.jpg.5b88d2705f7dc8233649b945f5cfdc7f.jpg061.jpg.68e0d5ebe9a5f69e3a31eaba253260d5.jpg

When you've fitted uncoupling magnets under the track, how do you know where they are when operating the layout?  I use the two lengths of track to show me - The magnets on both tracks are in line with where the rails 'overlap'

LAYOUT SIGN

When I made the artwork for the platform signs, I made sure it was high enough quality to be reproduced in a larger format to go on the front of the layout in time for its first outing at the Ilkeston (Woodside) Model Railway Show at Trowell, near Ilkeston, in February 2016

64.jpg.e4a317c413fbd19b4f2049e1bcc5ef32.jpg

The layout performed flawlessly throughout, pictures to follow in the next post...

MARCH 2017

After the show the layout went into Shaun's (Scooby71) loft and was set up so that any future work and testing could be carried out while I worked on Jubilee Road.  Here you can see Shaun's experimental trees, they were made to get something on the bank in time for the exhibition.  We are still not happy with them and sorting them is one of the things that still needs working on!
