The next project I had to do was build the Platform One Medical Practice building.  It needed to look like the real building but fit in the space available on the layout without losing too many of the features

So I made a start on it by counting how many brick courses high and how many bricks across the 'towers' were and worked from there

The canopy part still needed to be built and Shaun (Scooby71) helped me out with parts of it.  Here it is after completion...

When I was building the layout, Oxford Diecast hadn't released many 'average' modern cars so I had an idea! - use up some of the car park with a charity fundraiser for the Air Ambulance

FEBRUARY 2015 - FIRST EXHIBITION

London Road's first outing was in February 2015 when it was appeared at that years Ilkeston Woodside MRC Show at Trowell (near Ilkeston).  It is thanks to the Ilkeston Woodside MRC that London Road still exists.  After moving house (to one without a garage) I had no room to store it, let alone set it up.  IWMRC let me keep it in the clubroom so it could be finished.  It is at the club that I met Matt (Heinz57) and Shaun (Scooby71)

APRIL 2015

Earlier in the year London Road was filmed so it could be shown on the BRM cover DVD.  It appeared on the cover DVD of the April 2015 issue of BRM as Layout of the Month.  It looked quite impressive on the video, unfortunately the same couldn't be said for me!  :jester:

MAY 2015

These are some of the photos taken by Andy York for the 'East Midlands Today' article in the May 2015 issue of British Railway Modelling, where it appeared alongside Matt's (Heinz57) layout Eleveden Road TMD.  (photos are used with permission)

The Medical practice building is an amazing piece of model building construction you were right when you said it had to be right as it really sets the layout off. It is amazing that just one building can have such a strong influence on a scene and you can be very proud of the end result ...Excellent  :fan:

Cheers gismorail,

I remember, I kept putting off building it because I thought it was going to be a nightmare.  Once I started it seemed to progress quite quickly and worked out OK without any problems.  I only wish i had fitted lighting in it!  :scratchhead:

GOING GREEN

Since the appearance in British Railway Modelling magazine, the 'greenery' has had a major overhaul.  Matt (Heinz57) did the majority of it and it makes a huge difference to the finish of the layout!
