David Bigcheeseplant
The Risborough & District Model Railway Club has just been granted charitable status. The club has submitted and was granted charity status yesterday after putting together a quite in depth submission. I am not too sure how many other clubs have gone down this route (Warley MRC have) but it does mean we have trustees and the club has to demonstrate that it provides a public benefit. One advantage It also means that there is an automatic 80% deduction on rates if a club pays these, (we don't at the moment but may do if we move to a larger clubroom). We have seen an increase in our membership in the last few years and have now the highest in the clubs history. We are looking for larger club rooms and felt that charitable status would bring benefits to us. peter220950
David, Congrats, Leamington and Warwick went down this route several years ago, as you note it's useful in reducing the overheads. It is a bit of a one way street, but overall well worth it, you just need to keep up the charitable objectives. We also get gift aid on the membership fees for tax paying members, this also boosts funds. Peter
