Boxcab
There's something to be said for n gauge. Yes but it is not repeatable here ! You know that it will be worth all the effort in the end. Stephen, That is looking promising.

enginelane
That’s the session over for today. 7.5 hours construction time.
enginelane
Delayed delivery of some furniture meant had to wait in so did another 2 hours. Pasted in 3rd module. Looks like it’s going to take 4.5 A2 sheets of foam board for each of the main factory building. Will have to think again and revise how the windows are going to be constructed Bottom storey not filled in as not clear where doors, loading bays etc need to be placed but modular nature means can in fill accordingly. Conrail Joe
This is a real cool layout you have going on! Very interesting!
enginelane
2.5 hrs work this morning and everything to the left hand edge of the book glued down. All other pieces cut. Job stopped as gone through large sheet of 30 thou and the brick sheet used for the columns. Now the window has fully dried it looks a lot better than it did. Tomorrow looks like it’s window time. This is the maximum size piece that can be stored and moved around in the house. On the end pieces with infill brick a piece will be put in the sides to create the full panel effect. Looking at the photos the bottom fill pieces that are not brick or loading bay seem to be rendered concrete so will mock one up.

Boxcab
Time to start building the turnouts ! The templates (Fast Tracks free downloads) have been mounted on the sub-base. The ties have been cut & stained, just need to glue them on to the templates now.
enginelane
Session this morning on windows. Original plastic canvas mesh that is being used to recreate the glass block effect came from Hobbycraft. Additional mesh came from 4D models and Sod’s law says dimensions ever so smaller in thickness of each grid but when taken across a whole window means does not fit! Since plans drawn up using a Hobbycraft window as the standard size then fresh supplies have been sent for. Will keep the 4D mesh for other jobs. Trialling one mesh and one layer of frosted plastic sitting on top of the foam board. Mid grey painted onto the foam board to try and replicate the colouring of the cut out window. If can get away without cutting the window apertures will greatly increase the structural strength of the factory once in position and speed up construction of the building
enginelane
Since window job effectively on hold awaiting delivery will have ago at mocking up sample infill panels

enginelane
Club room this evening to see how the factory building fits into the space. General opinion was it was of the correct style and general appearance. This building needs another 37 cm of width to complete to the base board joint and then will need a further 30 cms onto the next board before a right hand bend takes to the back of the base board. There are planned 3 tracks to fit in front of the building with another building starting from the baseboard edge. At the moment no real idea of the bottom infill panels in terms of loading bays, doors etc.
RichardEyre
Looking great. Some homework for the team responsible for positioning the tracks and spots.
enginelane
Afternoon session spent adding brick strip into inside of the brick panels. When dry will have the corners knocked off to create a slight chafer. Many windows have additional vents, grills and some have openings so spent some time working out how to recreate the effect.
enginelane
Additional sheets of 30 thou plastic card purchased so can continue with framing out the different storeys. Now know the height from railhead to door can mock up a loading bay. 1/48 th scale figure in doorway.
enginelane
Put on some paint and a sample plain glass window
enginelane
According to the S7 classic dimensions 140 mm needs to be left from rail height to top clearance for cars and locos. Pencil line shows it on the model. This means first storey windows could end up being modified to accommodate any awnings over loading bays etc.
enginelane
morning session spent painting out the windows and applying the first of the brick colour layers. Used up a small tin already. Good job I purchased a large tin from Precision paints at Stafford the other week.
enginelane
One of the features of the layout will be a covered conveyor that will run nearly the whole length of the layout. Need to find a cost effective way of reproducing what seems to be a corrugated iron, asbestos sheet construction. Using a paper based corrugated card fixed to 30 thou plasticard. Material comes in long sheets so could make long runs without many joints. Knocked up a trial piece
