Here's a few of the Queen Mary 2 in Auckland, New Zealand. Unfortunately Aucklands cruise terminal dock is not deep enough to take liners of the Queen Mary 2's size a draft. So she has to berth at the container wharf.

One of Queen Elizabeth too. She does fit at the cruise terminal.

Call me a heathen, but I find modern cruise ships are becoming uglier and uglier. Compare the hull lines and elegance of older ships with the current breed of floating breeze blocks and it is a sad comparison I think.

My first ship was this:

Ugly funnel excepted she was a lovely old bucket. This was the better BAS boat I sailed on:

https://abinantarctica.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/img_6436.jpg

But this was the much nicer BAS boat:

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/1016106.jpg

And I finished my career on this:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tsmhl8V4zDs/Ue2jQheaF7I/AAAAAAAABiY/e9oxTgoImWA/s1600/011.JPG

The best ships I sailed on were this class:

My favourites this class:

And I won't dignify the truly evil pieces of **** Mairangi Bay or Resolution Bay by posting a link, Hitler's revenge.

A few taken at Mormagoa in 1996:

Transhipment vessel Sanjeevani, an ex T2 tanker used for transferring iron ore from barges to bulk ore carriers that were too deep to load to full capacity alongside the quay.

The bulk ore carrier MV Endeavor that was being loaded by Sanjeevani, bound for Italy.

Another bulk ore carrier, being loaded by the ship loader in Mormagoa.

Edited to add ship's name, which i remembered overnight!

Yes, sailed on the Bransfield, can't remember a Dick Pascoe though. Thinking about it, it is twenty years since I worked for BAS, where does the time go? Reminds me of the first time I had trainees born after I'd finished my cadetship.

I quite often go down to the harbour where I can park on the quayside to look at ships.

The Arklow ships are carrying alumina which then goes by rail to Fort William.

We also see a lot of support ships.

Other cargo ships come and go.

I agree on the whole, but the Cunard ships are much better looking than other cruise ships. Just personal preference.

Somewhat more classic lines, especially so considering what she is, on the RFA 'Fort Rosalie' (formerly 'Fort Grange') now over 40 years old but still at sea

How could I omit our regular holiday ship?  Another old lady and for you engineering types according to the Chief she has at least one example of just about every screw thread known in the Western world
