I've also had a quite a bit of dialogue with Andy E by email and he made changes to the sides of the GN Dia 164F CK to incorporate the toplight ventilator frames and to improve the thickness of the sides of the droplights and sent me replacement sides, also for my Dia 78T Buffet Car which had flaws in the ends of the prints of the sides. One question for you did you find that the corridor sides of the Dia 78V Buffet had kinks in the tops of the sides looking down on them vertically, mine did to some extent and these were much worse on the Dia 164F CK? I have in fact spent a lot of this evening (here in Oz) reading your thread, particularly the discussion on Isinglass kits. I have the same view as you that he is to be applauded and we should work with him. Its understandable that he hasn't got the knowledge his Dad had who did the drawings. I actually started a thread on the Isinglass coach kits on the LNER Model Railway forum (https://www.lner.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13659) but haven't posted anything recently because I've been distracted on other projects including building MSE GN somersault signals for an exhibition layout built by a friend here in South Australia (see p2037 I think it is of Wright Writes - but you've probably seen that). Andrew Andrew, I've had another look at my buffet and I can’t see any kinks. There is a slight curve in the sides but that disappears when I put the floorpan on. I’ve glued the roof on so can’t look down, but here is a view looking up if that helps (hope you don’t mind a Jesse). (Ignore the painting - it’s at teak undercoat stage). During the recent Virtual ScaleForum I caught up with Andy via Zoom and he was very helpful and is looking to improve the kits as much as he can. I think instead of criticizing all the faults we should be thankful that he is producing these to the best of his ability. We should therefore be working with him to improve them but we all, him included, need to understand working within the 3D resin medium. I had looked for ages for a D&S Milk Brake it on eBay, because trying to get one from Danny while being out here in Oz was just too hard. I’m therefore very thankful to have one of these kits to put together and it really looks the part on the head end of a Donny stopper as in a pic I have so I can now match a prototype pic very closely. Yes it doesn’t have internal bars on the windows, yes it has ends that are too thick, yes it has 3D printed bogies rather than MJT ones, but hey, I’ve got a resemblance of a Dia 310 Milk Brake at the front of a local service which allows me to represent a working through Wakefield Westgate and I’ve got Andy at Isinglass to thank for that. I think I was just signing off from speaking to Andy on zoom at scaleforum when you joined. He certainly is prepared to listen and welcomes all feedback. He is the best bet we have for esoteric LNER carriage kits and needs our help, encouragement ....and business. Andy 4

Unless he is made aware of these minor faults, the kits will simply not improve in the future. Andy I think you’ve hit the nail right on its head there Andy, it’s the tone I noticed in your workbench thread from other posters that really had me wondering what’s become of our hobby. Positive criticism is definitely what we need, but to say that these are worse than Kirk kits, given both the standard of those kits and the current holder of them is uncalled for and shows too much arrogance that is present among some modellers on here. People like Andy at Isinglass are doing their best to help out our modelling and if we are positive in our critique it only benefits all of us. Sorry for hijacking your thread Jesse! cheers Tony 2

Andy Thanks Andy I agree it doesn't look like you've got any significant distortion with those sides. My Dia 164F CK was the worst. Still I've got the original sides to play around with to see what is the best way to straighten them. I've attached a quick photo taken on my phone of the top of the revised corridor side of the Dia 164F to show what I mean. Andrew

I did have some distortion on the cab of my Graeme King A2/3 conversion kit which had been sitting in a box for four years. I emailed him about it and he recommended clamping a straight edge to it and dipping the assembly in nearly boiling water. That worked perfectly. I’ve just tried the a similar technique (Pouring this time) on the front of the running plate of the assembled A2/3 model which had bent during construction. Again it worked. This is a different type of resin (for moulds rather than 3D printing) so no guarantees but it may be worth experimenting if your sides are genuinely spare. Woodcock29
Andy I'm intending to use heat in one form or another. I've already straightened one pair of twisted Isinglass bogies using the boiling water method. To straighen the top of the sides I'll need to clamp them in the steel bending bars I have. So heating might be a problem as they'll act as a heat sink. Might try localised heating with a hair dryer as well then plunge into cold water. Jesse Sim
Clean track and the stock back on, have little jobs to do on wagons and coaches but I’ll get on with them in time. Now it’s time to clean the scenic area and get some trains rolling, I’m thinking another YouTube video, stay tuned

Jesse Sim
Popped over to Charles Rudder’s house yesterday to drop of my B2 which Charles has kindly accepted to paint for me. I can paint black locos fine, but I know Charles likes painting and I can’t argue with the superb paint job he accomplished with his Flying Scotsman. When I arrived I was shocked to see trains running in the driveway. He started this as a lockdown project to extend of his terminus layout Uley Junction. So we played trains for a few hours and went around with a not pad taking notes on any problems that needed fixing. Most of the hold ups were points not be set to the right road as they aren’t wired up yet. Fantastic stuff, even it is Great Western and O gauge....

Jesse Sim
Getting closer to finishing one out of the three milk tankers. The middle wagon is the one nearing completion, to its right is the start of another and the left wagon is the Hornby original. I purchased some transfers through Wizards for United Daires but they don’t seem to want to work. So I can’t do much until I get some better transfers.

The ones I have you can’t get the backing paper of unless you submerge it water. But then the top paper won’t slide off and leave the letters on the side? Jesse Sim
Update on the Milk train, all tank wagons are getting closer to the finished product. The isinglass GN brake is also nearing completion, handrails were added today, she’s off to NZ to get teak painted by Jack Pederson, all horse trading. Wonderfully thing it is. Once it’s been teaked, I’ll fit the glazing, bars, glue and paint the roof and then paint the bogies. 12

Can you say a bit about what you’re doing to them? Pack your milk brake well for its journey to NZ - that resin is very brittle.
