Bargain Hunters Mark 2

Recommended Posts

deep in the depths of the olivias thread are lots of comments about the chassis not being 'new', i think 'factory refurbished' would be a closer description, unfortunately those who voiced their displeasure with recieving a 'not new' item got treated to a dose of olivias legendary over the phone customer service

still if your happy with it and it works when it arrives and it serves its purpose then thats all that matters

I ordered one of the class 33 chassis when Oliviers first advertised them. New they said.

Yes they were new but what They didn't say was that they were old/new so they had the old brown wheels.

I got my money back eventually as they weren't properly described.

Dave.

You mean the DCC incompatible one ?

I know it’s an easy fix, but still they are swamping the ebay bargains, which means it’s a £60 chassis, and a unsellable body. But if you want a green one yes it is a bargain.

Meanwhile I just noticed these Falcons are now discounted..

Those the ones that let the pins go through the socket and short on the chassis below?

Anyhow, aside from dodgy class 26s, I was in Aldi today, avoiding the various things on the telly and picked up their latest booklet.  Offers for the 27th May include a number of hobby tools, including a temperature controlled soldering station, a Li-ion battery craft drill, an airbrush and compressor and various hand tool sets amongst other things.

These may be of interest!

(Its not on their website yet.)

For those of you who follow N Gauge, Derails are allowing you to pre order a brand new limited edition class 66 for (essentially) £75.

http://www.derails.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=907

So that is £75 pay now or £95 if you pre-order and only pay the deposit.

Still cheaper than the £119.99 rrp but a little odd for something that is a limited edition.

And they honour the guarantees.

I had an electric chain saw where the on/off switch stopped working as it should.   Contacted them and explained that after 2.5 years the till receipt had faded to read nothing at all - along with several others in that year's pile.  They sent a postal slip.  I returned the body and it came back fully functional within 10 days of me sending it off.

And you can get spare parts.

I bought a battery multi-tool which only had one battery (Li-ion) so I rang the service department to enquire about spares.

"Certainly, just give your card number and I'll put one in the post."

A few days later I'm +1 battery.

I bought two convector heaters that had three warranty. One was duff as bought and was replaced immediately. The scond one went wrong after about 63 days. I took it back and was told the return to store limit was 60 days. I managed by arithmetic logic to convince staff member that 63 days from whenever was 60 working days and got another heater. One of them packed up after more than 60 days so had to go along three year warranty route. Easy except that I had to return it at my expense to Australia. So I bought a switch for a fiver and repaired it myself.

Hi guys, I don't mean to take this topic off-topic but I thought I ought to just explain this!

There was a mistake in the item pricing, caused by me! The total price of the item should be £95. We do pre-orders two ways, for convenience to our customers - you can either pay the full £95 upfront when ordering or pay a £20 deposit now and the £75 balance later - paying upfront guarantees you won't be subjected to price increases, etc, but paying £20 makes things more affordable as it means that you haven't got the full £100 or so tied up during the pre-order process.

The £75 is the balance payment amount (£95 - £20 = ), which, by a simple mistake, was put into the items price column instead. This  has obviously been corrected now and for those of you who did order the model at this price we will be happily honouring the price you paid. It was a simple mistake on my end, and well done SVRLad for spotting a proper bargain! :)

Guest CLARENCE

Lots of stuff available  at Aldi just now, under Hobby items. All kinds of small tools, and an airbrush compressor. Worth a look, I think.

Regards

OOPS, sorry, beaten to it,well and truly. I should have checked!

Various OO items in Rails one day sale. Most noticeable the Bachmann Wickham with wasp strips £49.50 + pp and Hornby 08 £89.50

https://railsofsheffield.com/groups/2415/flash-sale-

I had that list yesterday - but the prices still seem valid.

Todays' flash sale is Oxford railway stuff with Dean Goods, Radials, Mk3s warwells and carflats.

Cheers

Me too, despite the fact I may have to seriously downsize my collection I couln't resist a Grantham allocated one at that price. Just might give up on the Nu Cast one I've been squabbling with for quite some time, not that I've done much, as in very very little, modelling for several years
