Re the Aldi calipers, I don’t use them very often, but every time I did the batteries were dead. Hence the reason for suggesting removing the batteries.

I've had some for several years, I never take the battery out and I'm only on the second battery.

According to the date on them 02/15(?). Don't know exactly when I bought them.

Many of the cheaper digital vernier calipers are actually "on" even when turned "off" - when off in fact only the LCD display is off, so there is still some (albeit v. small) current consumption which can flatten batteries faster than would normally be the case.

HTH

As LCD displays are electrostatic, it wouldn't save much current to turn just the display off.

Do we really need full listings of this nature on the basis that numerous other sellers have long lists of reductions from time to time ?

Most bizarre,  I thought the point of this thread is to let folks know of bargains, I'll not bother next time!

and in the DJM threads a suggestion that the only posts should be from crowdfunders who only want to post they've had an embargoed newsletter.

Am I entering the Twilight Zone ?

I must admit I'm quite surprised that you made this remark, given that you normally like/thank every post on this thread which does contain details of bargains.

Many thanks for the tip; i'd been looking at these (or similar) some months ago and did wonder if they were any good.  Just ordered one (lucky enough to get one for £10.52 - last one, but will have to wait for delivery from China).  Did find them for £12-20 from UK:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2019-Headband-Magnifier-Head-Magnifier-Hands-Free-Magnifying-Glass-Optivisor-UK/392239583945?hash=item5b534d12c9:g:qIAAAOSwz2JbXYg6:rk:33:pf:0

Update:  I've just received my "knock-off" Optivisor from Ebay; it's fitted with a 2.5x magnifier as standard (there are three additional lenses of different strength included, but initial thoughts are that the 2.5x is a reasonable trade-off between magnification and focal length).

Quality seems ok, though the adjustment knob on the rear of the headband was pretty tight to turn initially on my example.  Not a great problem, as once it's set to size you'll probably not need to turn it very often.

Overall, for a tenner I'd buy again without hesitation.  Let's face it, it's a quarter of the price of a genuine one, which I believe only comes with one lens - different strengths cost extra.  A lot extra......
