Bargain Hunters Mark 2

Recommended Posts

11 hours ago, CovDriver said:

I won't be adding anymore updates regarding bargains  from that place that shall not be mentioned in Birmingham in future as it only stirs the Hornets nest everytime then we all throw our toys out of the pram because you don't want to  come to that place that shall not be mentioned in Birmingham for a bargain.

Well done - now no bargains for anyone. Why is it so difficult to understand:

1. It's your choice and thus your consequence that you don't live in Birmingham or anywhere near it.

2. Some people do live near Birmingham - a selection of those people model trains. Some retailers are based near there too.

3. You can buy reasonable bed space from Airbnb, or in the worst case a hotel, for at most the £30 mark should you want to visit Birmingham for any reason.

What's the problem?

I don't think your complaint is with CovDriver, but the mardy types who complained about his useful and informative posts.

(I realise you probably didn't mean it to look that way, but generally when you quite someone else's post, what you write after that looks like you're replying to it.)

Locomotion/NRM have their limited edition 66779 Bachmann Evening Star reduced it to £125.

http://www.locomotionmodels.com/exclusive-models/diesel-and-electric-models/bachmannnrm-exclusive-32-983nrm-class-66-66779-evening-star.htm?mc_cid=e6c7e3dd66&mc_eid=2e607d2d04

As an aside, whoever keeps posting about the bargains in Ian Allan, Birmingham - please keep posting.

As the OP of this version of BH, I've tried very hard to keep quiet about the complaints about "unavailable" items (and be accused of being forum police)

It was a similar issue about a shop with bargains only available to shop callers that caused the downfall of the previous BH thread - we don't want that to happen here.

If it happens that some bargains are available to some but not others then that's the way it is.

Don't bleat if you're unlucky enough not to be able to take advantage. Your day will come with another bargain in another location.

I'm not in Brum very often, and would never have thought to call in IA except for posts on this thread. Although there have been things that I would have bought that have been posted by others, so far I haven't been lucky enough to find something to suit me in my infrequent visits but will do so one day.

Happy Hunting

Mick

I live in Glasgow, certainly not within a couple of hours of Birmingham (thank goodness !), but I pass through the place sometimes and am therefore grateful for information about the IA bargain table, even though the things I fancy are usually gone by the time I get there !

Please, anyone with knowledge of bargains, anywhere, keep posting; Even if only one person benefits the topic has served its purpose.

Not sure if this has been posted already or not, but Hattons is selling Duke of Gloucesters for £75: https://www.hattons.co.uk/206735/Hornby_R1177Loco_Class_8_4_6_2_71000_Duke_of_Gloucester_in_BR_green_with_late_crest_Railroad_Ra/StockDetail.aspx

Anyone know if I can get this at Ian Allen, as I cannot get to Hattons from where I live?

Ian Allan stopped selling Hornby some years ago due to Hornby's attitude at the time.

Recently they have started taking a (very) few items again.

You won't (at the present) get bargain Hornby, although I had a few when Hornby was the main railway model brand there.

I have a soft spot for Bure Valley Models - no affiliation, links etc, just a decent shop doing their best.

Bargains here:

http://www.burevalleymodels.com/c/112/Locomotives

Couple of Bachmanns caught my eye:

DB 08 for £69.00 - http://www.burevalleymodels.com/p/8078/32-119---Class-08-DB-Schenker-Red-08-907

Bachmann Patriot for £99 - http://www.burevalleymodels.com/p/7987/31-214---Patriot-45538-Giggleswick-BR-Green-Early

Its the Railroad model, split from a train set.  IA wouldn't touch it with a bargepole! :mosking:

Anyhow, at least with the Big Hat, you can order it online.  Much cheaper than faffing about getting to Birmingham....   :jester:

Seems to be a 5% discount - as an example it makes a Class 31 TTS decoder £34.19 from them (plus £1,99 postage)

I've just got an email from The Model Centre about a sale they are having and while their loco prices are still higher than other places their prices on the Bachmann GUV'S @ £28.77 do seem cheaper than the big boys.

Not sure if this is allowed given the previous complaints regarding bargains available at certain west midlands retailers as it's only available to personal callers at the shop?

There's a certain retailer in an East Midlands city closing down. Final day is tomorrow. I've just been in, stock is much reduced but there's still quite a number of Hornby coaches now at 50% off so around the £20 mark each. A few wagons at half price, small number of locos discounted, other bits and pieces all discounted. Couple of things caught my eye but not my wallet, Hornby Thomas range Edward at £45, no interest to me by maybe to someone, and an Adams radial, don't know if Hornby or Oxford for £50 possibly, second hand?

As the saying goes please don't shoot the messenger!

Speaking as somebody who will not be able to get there, I think it would be entirely appropriate for you to name the store :)

That Rails selection looks like the sort of stuff Hattons used to get in bulk.

For once there is quite a bit of pre-nationalisation stuff in the lists - 4Fs in Midland and 3Fs in LMS liveries at £69.50

They have class 43s in Green, Maroon and Blue at £89.50

A green 2 EPB at £124 is a bargain - that's usually an Ebay price.

Please name the shop. It is in the OP if the bargains are restricted to personal callers only.

Sorry - but it's just hard luck if you can't get there (I can't)- at least someone on here may be able to take advantage.
