I would never normally order from Hattons but this looks a good bargain to me for a new DCC controller.

https://www.hattons.co.uk/17572/hornby_r8213u_select_dcc_controller_with_mains_adapter_manual_split_from_set_/stockdetail.aspx

Only 34 in stock... Can't decide weather to get a 2nd or not.... decisions decisions at that price. Ordered one yesterday, should come tomorrow :) They also have some absolute bargains on the cables too! Only £2.50

I am very tempted as I am after a new controller but am I right in thinking the select can’t access F21-25 and can’t change CVs?

Depends on the firmware version, if it's the latest it supports up to 28 now.

Edit to add: Mine just came, firmware is version 1.5. Manual says it supports up to 28 functions so should be good. Annoyingly the function activation is different from older versions which will make it a bit harder for me as I use them as slave units to my elite and they'll have different controls now!

Edited to further add: Woah, they sold out quickly. Guess I won't be getting a 2nd then!

I believe they can with the latest 1.6 firmware however to upgrade it needs to be sent to Hornby.

Colletts models have new stocks of the Bachmann maroon portholes for £42.95 each, a good £4 cheaper than most of the big box shifters: https://www.collettsmodelshop.co.uk/product-category/model-railways-2/oo-gauge/Bachmann/coaches-Bachmann/lms-60-ft-porthole-coaches/

Not strictly "bargains"....

Argos are selling off their specially boxed Railroad level "Javelin" train set, aka "Intercity Express" for £90 less a penny.

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7097449

because Hornby have done a new livery for them called "City Express" for bang on £100....

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9304398

The only difference, apart from the cod liveries, is that the new set has the new power controller and a little plastic rerailing device.

Of course, you might say its the same colour scheme as "My First Express Train", which would save you £70.

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7309065

"Intercity Express", not even Southeastern?!  whyyyyyy? Do fictional liveries really sell that much better to kids? When I was a (10 year old) kid, after getting my first train set, all I desired was a model in the livery of my local trains...

Still think it's quite steep at £90.

P.S. Surely a downgrade from going between many cities "intercity", to now, I assume, circulating the one "city"!!

Maybe Hornby chose not to continue doing it as Southeastern (think they've been producing them since the Javelins first came out), and maybe wanted to make it more generic to fit a wider audience, but I would certainly prefer one with the real livery.

Lidl have some DIY items that may be of interest to some modellers. Heat shrink tubing for electrical insulation & hooks & eyes for the fastidious modellers who put curtains around their baseboards to hide a multitude of sins!

Princess Coronation streamliners at Model Railways Direct for £119.99 Blue one and £99.99 for the Red ones

For those unable to find specific models:

Queen Elizabeth

King George VI

Duchess of Hamilton

Fantastic price - thanks for posting Talleng, but perhaps slightly worrying that a retailer can slash such an amount off an item and still be turning a profit...

Would help if I actually put the URL in the correct box...  Sorry, its been a long day and the rains very much set in at a patch of grass not far from St Johns Wood.

Hopefully corrected now - thanks for letting me know.

Thank you for this, they have been hovering around the £129 mark for months and I’ve add one to my basket many a time before deciding no. Sub £100 did it for me, even though these locos are not my location
