A bargain book for BR 70s blue afficianados at the Works:

Unfortunately all B/W photos

And because I bought a copy, it's now further reduced:

cheers,

Bachmann G2a at £67.49 seems a good deal.  I have one already but that's tempting as it's such a lovely model and a good runner

Oh .....me too.....lost another £2......what with this and LLC

Got to laugh eh?

Bought a copy from my  local shop on Tuesday, for £5 , then walked up the road to kernow models and bought a Hornby GWR HST train set (cheaper than Hattons price), and a bargain priced EFE Western National Bristol coach  16226 for £5

Damn lucky to live close to Kernow Models........I’d waste* hours in there if we were closer.

*a relative term, decided by my relatives

That price is daylight robbery in my opinion. I picked one up for £80 albeit second hand in plain green but it is in excellent condition. Defo right place, right time if that's the retail price on a new one! You can get two car southern EMU's for between £80 - £120 second hand if you dig around.

Hi,

Yes, I've bought 17 second hand Bachmann 4 CEPs recently at an average of £130 each (for motor bogies, the trailing bogies, split axle pickups and other spare parts). I'm sure that doesn't look like a bargain now but I'm taking a punt (for instance I don't think anybody else makes the type of trailing bogies used on the CEP and some other BR(SR) EMUs/DEMUs).

Regards

Nick

Wow,  just picked up a Bachmann LNER 04  (GBP49.17 after VAT off) and a Hornby R3397 LMS Suburban train pack (GBP111.14 after VAT off)  for a ridiculously low price.  Shipping is a little more than Hattons but these days prices like this are hard to find.

19.99 for a Bachmann 00 Mk1 BSK in blue grey is the cheapest I have seen them in years....

Indeed yes. Bought a new Bachmann MK1 RMB for about the same price as going to the Doncaster Toy Fair tomorrow for a secondhand example.

Wow thanks, some bargains indeed, don't think I've seen Hornby Maunsell pull-push sets for under 50 quid before:-

The Hornby R1234 Howarts set is half price at Hawkins Bazaar, cheapest I’ve seen

Grab it quick at that price if you want it. Well before Christmas it was at £150 one evening, when I went to buy it the following morning for click and collect at the nearest store (as I had to visit that town anyway for something else that had cropped up) I found overnight it had gone back to full RRP.

Discounting delivery, it works out at £22.75 per carriage, Railroad pricing!

I wanted one, it fits into my layouts early 60s Southern Region identity, but at the normal price I had rather a lot of resistance.

However...

("stop following Bargain Hunters pages" is something that will be added to the New Years Resolution list)

I took advantage of this for my grandson earlier this morning for £99.50 including delivery.

https://www.hawkin.com/harry-potter-hogwarts-express-Hornby-r1234m

As of 12.35pm today this set was still available for £99.50 which includes the Hornby Midimat and comes with free delivery.

The same set was/is available from the normal model railway outlets WITHOUT the Hornby Midimat. The difference is in the Hornby Part Number. The sets at Hawkin are R1234m. The normal sets are Part Number R1234. That last "m" in the part number is very significant and is the one that contains the midimat.

Hope that clarifies what you will actually receive.

Happy New Year to all.

For those wanting to model WCRC coaches, the blue-grey 39-100C is the ideal donor vehicle for "Kitchen" 1961...….

Difficult to resist at that price.

https://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/rolling-stock-passenger/Bachmann-39-100c-br-mk1-ru-restaurant-car-blue-grey/

(Yet another one on the to-do list)

Cheers,

Mick
