Bargain Hunters Mark 2

So whilst checking some shop sites for a specific loco, I discovered that Hereford Models have some items, which are new but been out of production for a while which are certainly bargains compared to prices now:

Bachmann Class 108 White/Blue GMPTE £64.99

Bachmann Class 170 Anglia One 3 car £77.45

Hornby Class 56 Oyestermouth DCC fitted £95

Hornby Class 56 Construction Richard Trethivick £98.45

N Gauge

Dapol Pannier and 2 B coaches £69.95

Here are some things I thought looked decent value on the face of it. Sorry I haven't described the links I am on my phone so is a nuisance enough copying the links! I aren't 100% convinced they are all.new though unless they've been stuck in the back of the room for a long time!

If the items are used then it has to be stated, Hereford Model Centre has a good reputation.

I've had a fair few items at great prices over the years from them, no connection other than a satisfied customer

Yeah I wasn't suggesting skulduggery it was more because I was viewing on the phone I wasn't sure I was seeing the full website.

I am tempted by that Windhoff at £105, had 5 locos delivered this week already though so should refrain for risk of being in trouble!

Kernow Lomited Edition Bachmann Class 43/47s for £99.99

Farish Class 57 for £99.99

Dapol LMS Jinty O Gauge Sound £279.99

I think the 48DS for £59.99 is as cheap as I have seen too.

I was eyeing that one up too after my post last night. It looks good value, but I don't really want kettle for the sake of it at the moment though.

Pretty sure they've become more scarce than they previously were now, but recall these 5MTs in excellent condition selling for in and around the £40 mark on eBay.

They look nice and on the flat they perform perfectly fine. However, their incline haulage ability is pretty woeful unfortunately.

Agreed.  Shame we're on lockdown, visiting the store took me back thirty years.

I do think a Hornby 4MT might be a better prospect when I get round to it as well.

DC Kits have a very good Hornby sale on at this link: https://www.dckits-devideos.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=246

I picked up a BR lined black D16 for £75, and they have a few other D16's and J15's available at that price which is very decent as the cheaper older stock sold out a while back. Several older, hard to find steam models available at great prices, few things that stood out were:

R3168 Railroad Duke of Gloucester, £60.

R3273 Crosti 9F, £72.

R3115 West Country, Exeter £120 (not necessarily a bargain but a well-sought after one I believe)

R3229 GWR Star £75

R3105 GWR Castle £92.50

Plenty of other stuff on there too. No connection other than a customer earlier today and thought I would pass on the info. Fill yer boots!

Does anybody have experience with 365games.co.uk?

Seems like some stuff on there is cheap:

https://www.365games.co.uk/model-kits/Hornby-br-a4-class-4-6-2-walter-k-whigham-era-4-model-train

And also Hobby King which seems like it is HK based but I thought this was good value:

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/Hornby-oo-gauge-db-schenker-class-67-bo-bo-67013-era-10-dcc-ready.html

Also on the topic of skips Colletts have 67024 in Belmond livery for £122, cheapest I have seen. Tempting too as I have the pack with 67021 in!

Hobby King are very good and are often competitive with prices.  However they have a number of warehouses spread around the world and if you order from the wrong one, you may be hit by custom charges.  I tend to order from the British or European warehouses where custom charges are not an issue, at least until 31 December for the European one.

Some items are only stocked in some warehouses, so you have to search for the best deal/risk for what you want.  The page for the item will show where it is available.

Most train items only seem to be available in the global warehouse and you should therefore factor in the risks of custom costs being applied when it arrives in the UK.

Best wishes

Roddy

I asked my son as he's used them, although not for toy trains. He reports no problems.

I always do a search if I haven't used a retailer before and TrustPilot is the usual mixed bag, but overall excellent. I know complaints about late delivery are up across board. Some don't read the news!

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.365games.co.uk

They also offer PayPal checkout.

I think you're safe.

Yes the 67 is in HK so by the time you have accounted for postage and customs it's not really any cheaper than the UK. I did see that model for about £90 in the UK somewhere and decided against but I do like my 67 I have

Thanks for the tip. I now have a pair of Wellingtons. The  previous R3105 cost 30 quid more and was best price I could get at the time.

The tender is the important part because I want to run It behind a Hall in circa 1953 GW weathered condition with BR smokebox plate.

Next decision is which Hall loco to use, a Bachmann which has good body detail but is said to be a bit feeble towing a train

or Hornby Railroad with reasonable chassis and motor but not so good body. Or an amalgam of the two.

Have used them a couple of years back for a model kit. Was no issues when I did and they were quick and efficient at getting the item to me.  They seem to offer a eclectic mix of items occasionally.

Cheers

Used them a few weeks ago, took a few days for them to ship but that was made clear from the start. Good service all told.
