Any time I've had a problem with them (very little) they have been most helpful, including buying a non-working loco at a show.  You should have contacted them and given them a chance, rather than belittle them on here.

Unfortunately, Meatloaf is not alone.

Surely forewarned is forearmed !

Every retail outlet will have sales that don't go as planned, its part of life.

Tarnishing them without giving them a chance to resolve an issue is not fair.

I'm sorry but I had a problem with them too; despite verbally promising otherwise, they took the full 28 day statutory period to deliver something they had in stock.  What other on-line retailer offers that sort of service?

FYI, I ordered a brand new Hornby Black 5 from this trader on pre-order. When it arrived it came with a tender which had the old style pin connector and early crest whilst the loco had the correct plug connector fitment.

This actually rendered the loco inoperative. I contacted the owner who was dismissive and basically accused me of swapping the tenders over. Why on earth would I do that when the electrical contacts are not compatable ?

Numerous telephone calls were made to the shop, where his partner claimed he was not in the shop. I could clearly hear his voice in the background.

He later admitted he'd never checked the content of the box prior to despatch.

After a few weeks he reluctantly sent a replacement loco out with no apology.

Sorry if you don't agree, but that in my opinion is poor customer service.

Rather than clog up this blog, may I suggest you PM me if you wish to discuss  this further.

No I didn't the body was damaged but it was the chassis I was after and I was happy with the price paid.  So they didn't need to do anything.

My point is they advertised it as new - clearly it wasn't. And I certainly wasn't driving back to the show to return it

Have a rifle through Trainstop of Knighton, my Father's local shop.  It's not the nicest website, but the search is ok if you're after something specific.  Lots of new old-stock collected up in there.  Dai's a nice chap too.

My focus is on big-four, so I haven't really hunted for BR bargains, but these don't seem bad IMO:

Hornby R2355 - Bulleid Q1 BR 33037: £76.95

Hornby R3414SP - LNER J15 5444: £69.51

Hornby R3411 - SR S15: £85.18

Bachmann 31-433 - LMS Johnson 1F Half-cab: £81.96

Yep definitely worth a trawl IMO

A few I have spotted:

https://www.trainstop.co.uk/r3059---tornado-express-train-pack-dcc-ready-44431-p.asp

£130 for 3 mk1s and a (railroad spec I presume) Tornado sounds good. Cheaper than this year's release (R3828) which looks basically the same thing other than the livery.

https://www.trainstop.co.uk/r2795m---red-dragon-ltd-ed-train-pack-49129-p.asp

That looks good at £107 for 3 coaches and a loco.

https://www.trainstop.co.uk/31-512---159-dmu-stage-coach-3-car-44128-p.asp

3 car 159 for £97

https://www.trainstop.co.uk/31-512---159-dmu-stage-coach-3-car-44128-p.asp

Colas tractor for £101

https://www.trainstop.co.uk/r2961---olympic-ltd-ed-hitachi-class-395-49133-p.asp

Whilst not cheap, Olympics 395 which I think are hard to come by now? (Having looked at eBay, not hard to come by TBH)

Strangely enough as a result of looking through this lot I have ended up spending about £270 with The Model Centre, having bought this (last one so not posting other than interest, although it is £160 at Trainstop) and the aforementioned Tornado pack as it's about the same price as Trainstop.

Much like some of the smaller less high profile shops I have found them very handy as they have some older long out of stock items so worth a trawl of their site if you are looking for something specifically as they don't always appear high up in web search results.

Over to Chuffers of Winchester for a few Hornby Railroad goodies that stood out:

R3494 Railroad Black 5, £82.

R3499 Railroad GWR Hall Late Crest, £78.

R3583TTS 37, £89.

Not used them before, and they appear to be a relatively small internet-based affair, but a few good things on there - link: http://www.chuffers.com/Hornby_RailRoad/hornby_railroad.htm

As an aside, Colletts have the R3414-6 series of J15's available for only £59.99. Available on order, placed an order for one last night with no issues. These models are on clearance at quite a few places, but cheapest I've seen them. I would be careful there - everything on their website quotes 2018. Are they real / in existance?

I see what you mean, but if you have a trawl of their ordering info page you get an address and an email address too. Address appears to be a residential property, but then that's no different to S and J models for example. If anyone wants to order, email him first via the link on the Ordering Info page.

No connection, just trying to hopefully pass on some bargains/hard to find items.
